Vito Mannone: 6
Made one important save from Joao in the second half but otherwise very little to do. Bold in passing out which sometimes led to panic at the back, but generally fine.
Leandro Bacuna: 6
He was his usual energetic self but couldn’t quite find the killer pass or shot when getting forward, and had a few wayward passes at the back.
Paul McShane: 6
Dealt with the aerial bombardment of Fletcher and Joao well, but will still be thinking about that point blank miss from Kelly’s corner.
Liam Moore: 6
Again assured in possession and like McShane, rarely looked troubled
Chris Gunter: 6
Whilst it’s frustrating to see him always go backwards, the one time he did put in a good cross, Aluko fluffed his lines. Fine defensively.
Joey van den Berg: 7
A number of key blocks, including one to stop a one-on-one, Joey looked calm in possession the entire game - although the question remains whether Reading need such heavy numbers at the back.
Dave Edwards: 6
The Welshman got through a load of work in midfield, popping up at both ends to win headers. Didn’t quite have the quality to affect the game though.
Liam Kelly: 5
Some devilish set pieces aside, Liam looked a little off the pace, half a yard behind the play at times, and his passing was generally wayward. Still, hard to blame him after an injury comeback.
Sone Aluko: 6
Probably Reading’s most dangerous outlet, but after missing our three best chances rather than taking at least one of them, his rating dips to a six rather than a seven.
Yann Kermorgant: 5
Perhaps he’s still taking time to adjust after his injury, Yann failed to win many headers and didn’t get even a sniff of goal all game. Put in a shift as usual, but little effect on the game.
Modou Barrow: 6
Quieter in the second half as Wednesday adjusted to him, but looked as dangerous as ever when getting space to run with the ball. Missed a decent chance, although Bacuna was right in front of him.
Subs
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson: 6
Won his fair share of headers and put in a great cross for Barrow and Edwards, but killed a dangerous counter with a poor pass for Beerens.
Pelle Clement: 5
Ran around a lot but didn’t really do much, one blocked shot aside.
Roy Beerens: N/A
Average: 5.84
As ever, vote for your man of the match (although this week there’s hardly an embarrassment of riches).
