Every day this December, we’ll be picking out a well-known Reading moment from a player who wore a shirt number corresponding to the day in question. So, for example, we’re kicking the series off by letting you reminisce about one of one of the finest moments in recent Reading goalkeeping history...

Adam Federici

  • Position: Goalkeeper
  • Nationality: Australian
  • Total Reading FC appearances: 253
  • Total Reading FC goals: 1

Memorable Moment

Reading have been blessed with some superb number ones over the years, and I could have chosen any of them, from Marcus Hahnemann to Shaka Hislop. But Adam Federici gets the nod for the sole reason that I get to talk about that one goal that is glorified a few lines above. It also came on Boxing Day, so what better way to kick off this Christmas-based series.

Reading hosted Cardiff on December 26th 2008 in a game between two sides enjoying promising starts to the season - the Royals sat in second with the visitors in fifth. It was a tight encounter, but the Bluebirds looked to have stolen all three points when Michael Chopra bundled the ball home in the 89th minute. But all was not lost as Federici made his way up for a corner in sixth minute of injury time, before managing to smash the ball into the back of the net after Michael Duberry’s effort had been cleared off the line. The Madejski Stadium erupted in scenes of wild jubilation, whilst no goalkeeper has hit the back of the net in the second tier since Feds did so nine years ago.
