Any potential interest from Derby, Bournemouth or Blyth Spartans has been ended on Thursday morning with Omar Richards putting pen to paper on a new four-year deal with Reading.
The left-back made his professional Championship debut for the club in the season-opener at QPR and impressed many upon his first start, playing 70 minutes of the 4-2 win at Derby a few weeks back.
Now he’s set to stick around until 2021, adding an extra three years to his existing deal that was due to expire in the summer, hence the speculation.
“Omar is a left-back with a lot of quality on the ball, pace and real drive going forward – and those are attributes which every team in football is looking for in a player,” Jaap Stam told the Reading website.
“Of course he still needs to learn and improve, he knows that. But he’s already showing what he can do and is knocking on the door of the first team. That is a very good sign and we’re very happy we have him in our squad.”
