Saturday afternoon saw Reading concede a late leveller at Oakwell as struggling Barnsley snatched a deserved point in the Championship.
An even first-half saw little in the way of chances, Chris Gunter firing off the only effort of the opening exchanges while Garath McCleary’s return to the XI was unable to be the spark needed to lift the team after three straight defeats.
Going in goalless at the break, Reading scored against the run of play via Yann Kermorgant’s first of the season. The Frenchman leapt well to power in Tyler Blackett’s wonderful cross.
The hosts pressured for an equaliser but seemed to lack the final product to really threaten Vito Mannone, until Ethan Pinnock headed home in the 91st minute. In fact, Barnsley came again and had a lobbed effort cleared off the line before the whistle.
Reading remain 17th with the draw, on 28 points and now just five above the drop zone.
