What kind of defender wears No. 8?!

Ady Williams

  • Position: Centre-back
  • Nationality: Welsh (Born in Reading)
  • Total Reading FC appearances: 318
  • Total Reading FC goals: 17

Memorable Moment

Although its still a painful one for Royals fans, Ady scored the second goal in the 1994/95 play-off final to mark the real zenith of Reading’s excellent work that year, and it was perhaps the true breakout year for the local-born defender.

A year or so later and Williams headed off to Wolves but ended up back in Berkshire in 2000 for a four-and-a-half-season spell that really cemented his claim as one of the club’s best-ever centre-backs. It would be interesting to see how a player of his quality would have fared if making their way in the game today, but alas Williams’ modern contribution to the Royals scene is via a microphone in the press box.
