It's coming up to awards season in English football, and for the first time in a while there will be some Reading FC interest at the EFL ceremony next month, with John Swift nominated for the Young Player of the Year award.

The 21-year-old joined the Royals for free last summer from Chelsea, and made an instant impact by scoring the only goal in the 1-0 opening day win against Preston. He has gone on to net a total of seven goals and three assists in the league to help Jaap Stam's side sit fifth in the table.

The midfielder is joined on the shortlist by Ryan Ledson of Oxford United and Ollie Watkins of Exeter City. Reading between the lines, that tells me that Swift has been the best young player in the Championship this season! ;)

Chris Wood, Dwight Gayle and Anthony Knockaert have been nominated for the Championship Player of the Season award, whilst the division's Team of the Season was revealed last week (with eight games still to play may I add) complete with no Reading players.

We will find out whether Swift has won the accolade on Sunday April 9th.
