Reading To Play Huddersfield In Play-Off Final - Initial Bookie Odds

So we know who we'll be facing at Wembley but who do the bookies favour?

If you'd said at the start of the season that Reading would have to win a one-off game against Huddersfield to win promotion to the Premier League, it's a gamble just about anyone would have taken, well, after the initial laughter of the suggestion had subsided anyway.

Yet that's exactly the proposition that faces us after Huddersfield beat Sheffield Wednesday on penalties last night to book their place against us at Wembley on May 29th.

On paper you'd have though Reading would be the favourites. After all, we finished higher in the league, won eight of the last 11 and actually won a game in the semi-finals. David Wagner's side drew both their semi-final matches, a run that made it one win in seven and finished lower than us in the table, yet the bookies favour them to be celebrating come full-time at the national stadium.

Admittedly, there's not much in it. Huddersfield are 4/6 to win promotion, with Reading 11/10 to finally end our play-off jinx at the sixth attempt. Over 90 minutes, it's Huddersfield at 13/10, Reading 2/1 and the draw is 5/2.

Fancy a repeat of previous final scorelines? Well a 3-2 Walsall style defeat is 33/1, 4-3 as in 95 is 200/1 and 4-2 is 80/1. Or if you're thinking we'll win Simod Cup style, how about 70/1 for us to win 4-1.

We'll have another look at some more specific odds a bit closer to the day but there you go, for now you can double your money if you think we’ll be celebrating at the end of the day.
