It was a mixed night of fortunes for two Reading loaness in the League Two Play-Offs last night.
On the positive side, Jack Stacey scored a stunning 95th minute winner to send Exeter to Wembley on May 28th. It was the the sort of goal that ensures Jack will never have to buy a drink in the town again, one of those Cureton at Brentford style goals that will write him into folklore for years to come. Think I'm over exaggerating? Well just bloomin watch it. The win also ensured a Wembley trip for former Royals Jake Taylor and Pierce Sweeney, both of whom were included in the City 18 last night. It was also Jack's first goal for the club, so not a bad time to score it!
Their opponents in the final will be Blackpool, unfortunately because of an own-goal from recently released Reading keeper Stuart Moore. It really wasn't Moore's fault, with a defender heading down on to the keeper's prone body, but it unfortunately sealed a 6-5 aggregate defeat for Luton that sent the Tangerines back to Wembley. Hopefully that won't be held against him when trying to get a contract somewhere!
So Reading will now have representation in all three play-off finals, with Jake Cooper's Millwall taking on Bradford tomorrow in the League One finale. Throw in former Reading loanees Nathan Ake and Nathaniel Chalobah playing for Chelsea in the FA Cup final and it's not hard to find teams to get behind at the National Stadium.
