It's been a bit of a sudden rush to the exit door for fringe Reading players recently. After the departures of Deniss Rakels (loan), Jack Stacey and Zak Jules (both permanent), Jonathan Bond has today joined Peterborough United on loan until January 3.
The young 'keeper, still only 24, has had a tough time at Reading since Steve Clarke signed him from Watford. Despite making 14 first team appearances for the Royals, Bond ultimately lost the number one jersey to Ali Al-Habsi, who's been in the form of his life since.
He went on to play eight times for Gillingham on loan last season, conceding 10 goals. After that, he returned to Reading, but couldn't get into any matchday squads - Ali Al-Habsi, Anssi Jaakola and possibly George Legg all ahead of him in the pecking order.
With that in mind, it's no big surprise to see him head straight out of the door in the summer transfer window, with an early move giving him more time to settle in at London Road.
Expect to see other fringe players join Bond in the departures lounge in the coming weeks.
