Danzell Gravenberch To Head To Belgium On Loan

He played for us so little we haven't even got a picture of him in the blue and white hoops.

The summer clear out at Reading is set to continue, with kw.knack.be suggesting that defender Danzell Gravenberch will be heading to Belgium on loan for the season.

The 23-year-old only joined the Royals last summer from Dordrecht, but his move came when Brian McDermott was still in charge. Jaap Stam clearly didn't take to the big defender too well though, as he made two Championship appearances and three EFL Cup appearances for the senior team in 2016/17.

According to the report, Gravenberch will join KSV Roeselare for the season, who finished second in the Belgian second division last season but failed to earn promotion through the play-offs.

You might be thinking that KSV Roeselare sound familiar and you wouldn't be wrong. Back in March, TTE brought you news that one of Reading's new Chinese owners Dai Xiu Li, had invested in the club last summer and effectively saved it financially. So perhaps this latest rumour linking Gravenberch with a move there might be the beginning of some sort of partnership between Dai's two teams.

Indeed, in May, The Sun picked up on some quotes from Roeselare chief executive Johan Plancke that implied that the Belgian side could become a feeder club for Reading.

Plancke said:

“If Reading go up then maybe we will be able to take some of their players on loan next season.

“They are run by two Dutchmen from the Ajax school – Jaap Stam and the technical director Brian Tevreden. This will make it very easy for us to communicate with them.

“Besides, Reading are a club that could buy any player from the Belgian league. I am a low-cost scouting service for them, and I can give them advice.”

Of course, this is The Sun so they may have just misinterpreted those quotes but it is an indication of a potential link, despite the fact Plancke claims that the agreement would only work if Reading had gone up. What is also fairly interesting is that he suggests that Jaap Stam may look to the Belgian league for new players this summer.

So don't be surprised if next week Sandro Weiser is linked with a loan move to Roeselare or if a Belgian playmaker is reportedly set to move to Berkshire!
