As Ali Al-Habsi’s Reading exit edges closer, the internet is full of rumours about who might replace the Omani between the sticks at the Madejski Stadium. Well, when we say full, we mean we have two new names that could be on Jaap Stam’s “list of eight possible goalkeepers”.

Firstly, Talksport’s Geoff Peters has claimed that the Royals have made a £1.2 million bid (plus add-ons) for Hull City goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, who made 22 Premier League appearances last season as the Tigers were relegated to the Championship. Despite this, the 32-year-old kept five clean sheets and earned high praise for a number of his performances, most notably when he made a string of impressive saves in the 0-0 draw at Old Trafford in February.

However, Jakupovic is said to be keen to return to the top flight, with Leicester City also in the race to sign him - reportedly offering £2 million plus add-ons. That makes a switch to Berkshire seem pretty unlikely, as if the former Swiss international stopper wanted to be first choice at a Championship club he would surely stay put at Hull.

Furthermore, Here Is The City have reported that Fulham’s David Button is also being targeted by Jaap Stam. The 28-year-old made 40 Championship appearances for the Cottagers last season, lost his place to Marcus Bettinelli for the final eight games of the campaign, including the play-off semi-final ties against Reading.
