Game Week 8 was a dramatic One in League Two, leading to two managers losing their jobs and in League One a shocked Shropshire fan base are pinching themselves as Shrewsbury move 5 Points clear at the top!

Here D3D4 Football give us their roundup of the key action from the lower leagues.

LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP

Shrewsbury Town are the talk of Shropshire as they now have a five point gap between themselves and second placed Peterborough. The beat Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park in a close match thanks to another goal from Stephan Payne and the winner from Nolan. Oldham had leveled through Craig Davies and were on top for much of the match but Shrewsbury have that winning knack.

Bradford won the Yorkshire derby at Valley Parade, beating Rotherham 1-0 with Vincelot grabbing the only goal with a towering header.

Wigan made light work of Bristol Rovers as Powell, and Massey were on the scoresheet for the Latics, plus Will Grigg who scored just his second goal of the past 12 months. Sweeney was sent off for The Gas to compound their miserable afternoon.

There were two shock results as Blackburn lost 1-0 at home to Wimbledon with former Reading loanee Kwesi Appiah grabbing the only goal, his fifth of the campaign. While in Kent Gillingham beat Charlton 1-0 thanks to a Tom Eaves strike after half-time.

Results:

Blackburn 0-1 Wimbledon, Blackpool 3-1 Oxford, Bury 0-0 Plymouth Argyle, Oldham 1-2 Shrewsbury Town, Portsmouth 4-1 Fleetwood, Walsall 1-1 Peterborough, Gillingham 1-0 Charlton, Wigan 3-0 Bristol Rovers, MK Dons 3-2 Rochdale, Bradford 1-0 Rotherham, Southend 2-2 Northampton

LEAGUE TWO ROUND-UP

League Two was a manager’s graveyard on this weekend as both Michael Brown and Gary Caldwell were dismissed after a poor run of results at both Port Vale and Chesterfield respectively.

Vale were held 1-1 at home by Forest Green Rovers despite taking the lead through Dan Turner but FGR equalised in the second half when Bugiel headed home with his first touch after coming on as sub.

Chesterfield lost 2-1 at home to Accrington. The Spireite had Barry sent off and then went behind to a Billy Kee strike. The equalised through a Dennis penalty but Malik Wilkes struck the winner 8 mins from time and the writing was on the wall for Caldwell.

At the other end of the table Luton came back to beat Wycombe at Adams Park. Akinfenwa had given Wanderers the lead but first Cuthbert and then Collins scored in the 90th and 98th minute to win it for the Hatters.

Exeter stay top after comfortably beating Crewe 3-0 at St James Park. Tilson, former Royal Jake Taylor and Stockley grabbed the goals for the Grecians as they completely out-played Alexandra.
