Game Week 9 was a dramatic One in League Two, leading to two managers losing their jobs and in League One a shocked Shropshire fan base are pinching themselves as Shrewsbury remain 3 points clear at the top!
LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP
There were several big games in League One but perhaps the biggest saw AFC Wimbledon take on MK Dons on the Friday night at Kingsmeadow. The host have been struggling to find the net this season and their woes continued in this one! Ryan Seagar gave MK the lead when he slotted home a Sow gross and Ariyibi doubled the lead in the 27th minute.
Wimbledon just could not get back into the match and Taylor had his second half penalty saved by Lee Nichols before Longs brilliant save prevented the away side stretching their lead further. The defeat leaves Wimbledon in 16th while MK Dons move up to 9th.
Shrewsbury Town remain unbeaten after drawing 1-1 with Blackburn. The Shropshire club took the lead but were pegged back with just five minutes to go. They remain 3 points clear at the top, ahead of Peterborugh.
The visitors to London Road were Wigan but it was Peterborough United who came out on top in a entertaining match. The Posh won it 3-2 thanks to two goals from Junior Morias, who was playing for St Albans before being signed by the Cambridgeshire side.
Rotherham United continued to look impressive at home by thrashing sorry Oldham 5-1. League One’s top scorer keiffer Moore grabbed a brace to take his tally to 8 for the season.
Former Reading striker Simon Cox also got on the goal trail, as Southend beat Fleetwood 4-2.
Here are the results for League One:
Wimbledon 0-2 MK Dons, Oxford Utd 1-2 Walsall, Rotherham Utd 5-1 Oldham Athletic, Charlton Athletic 1-1 Bury, Rochdale 3-0 Gillingham, Bristol Rovers 3-1 Blackpool, Fleetwood Town 2-4 Southend Utd, Peterborough Utd 3-2 Wigan Athletic, Scunthorpe Utd 2-0 Portsmouth, Shrewsbury Town 1-1 Blackburn Rovers, Plymouth Argyle 0-3 Doncaster Rovers, Northampton Town 0-1 Bradford City
LEAGUE TWO ROUND-UP
The big game of the day in League Two was between Exeter City and Coventry City and it was the Sky Blues that finished on top against a decidedly sluggish Exeter. The Grecians had no answer to the trickery of Jodi jones and only managed one shot on target in the entire match finishing up as 2-0 losers.
Forest Green Rovers also lost in the Friday night game 2-0 at home to Swindon. The Nailsworth based side are really struggling to find any defensive cohesion so far and drop to the bottom of the table with this latest defeat. Ollie Lancashire got the Robins in front when he was left unmarked from a corner and then veteran left back Matty Taylor rasped a shot from distant underneath the home side’s keeper for the second.
Notts County made light work of a very good Lincoln City side, beating them 4-1 at Meadow Lane. Stead, Tootle, Grant and Terry Hawkridge were all on the score sheet for Kevin Nolan’s side who now sit top of the table by a single goal ahead of Exeter City.
Here are the rest of the League Two results:
Notts County 4-1 Lincoln City, Newport County 1-0 Grimsby Town, Forest Green 0-2 Swindon Town, Accrington Stanley 1-1 Cheltenham Town, Luton Town 1-0 Chesterfield, Coventry City 2-0 Exeter City, Colchester United 1`-2 Wycombe Wanderers, Yeovil 1-1 Port Vale, Barnet 1-2 Crawley Town, Mansfield Town 2-1 Cambridge Utd, Stevenage 2-1 Morecambe, Crewe Alexandra 0-5 Carlisle United
