Midfielder Scoops August Player Of The Month

He’s our top scorer and it’s no surprise to see him pick up the August Player of the Month award.

He picked up this award twice last season, now Liam Kelly’s made it a Tilehurst End Player of the Month hat-trick after scooping more than 70% of your votes.

The Irish midfielder scored our first three goals of the season to help us beat Gillingham in the Carabao Cup before scoring what was so nearly a winning goal against Fulham. With a 6.4 average in our TTE Player Ratings, he was the leading player throughout the month, beating the man who came second in the poll Modou Barrow and Vito Mannone into third place.

Having signed a new contract this summer and now firmly establishing himself in Jaap Stam’s first team, it’ll be fascinating to see how far Kelly can progress over the course of the season. It’s easy to forget he’s still just 21 years old and hasn’t even managed 50 Football League appearances, so the sky really is the limit for the Irishman.

It’s also nice to see two new signings get themselves into awards contention so early. Mannone has slotted seamlessly into the void left by Ali Al-Habsi, while Modou Barrow has already won over plenty of the fans following some eye catching bursts into the box.

So congratulations again to Mr Kelly and here’s to hoping for another month full of worthy contenders next month.
