What a result!

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson was the hero as Reading ran out 3-1 winners over Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium. The Icelander netted a brace - his fourth and fifth goals of 2018 - to fire The Royals to a vital victory at the fellow relegation-threatened Brewers.

The win is only Reading’s second of 2018 - the first if you’re just counting league matches. Before Tuesday night, The Royals hadn’t picked up three points since early December - also a 3-1 away triumph (that time at Sunderland).

Here’s how it all unfolded

Jaap Stam set Reading up in a 4-4-2:

Mannone; Bacuna, Ilori, Moore, Gunter; Aluko, Edwards, van den Berg, Barrow; Kermorgant, Bodvarsson.

Subs: Jaakkola, Blackett, Elphick, Clement, Evans, McCleary, Smith.

Reading had the best of a first half which otherwise saw few chances. After 20 minutes, Leandro Bacuna’s low centre was tucked away by Jon Dadi Bodvarsson for his seventh goal of the season. However, Burton brought the scores back level soon after the break - winning a penalty thanks to what appeared to be a pretty soft foul.

However, The Royals restored their lead through CHRIS GUNTER of all people just before the hour mark. It was Leandro Bacuna again with the assist - the Curacao international setting up the Welshman from a corner.

It could have been three not long after, Dadi brought down in the area in what appeared to be a solid penalty, but it wasn’t given. However, Reading did indeed make it 3-1 on 68 minutes - Dadi completing a brace.

Reading saw the game out to hold onto their lead and return to Berkshire with a vital result under their belt. We go again on Saturday with the visit of Millwall.

Make sure to stay tuned to The Tilehurst End for plenty more reaction to the Burton game.
