He ain’t coming to Berkshire.

Luis Castro will not become Reading’s new manager. That’s according to Portuguese outlet Record who claim that the current Vitoria de Guimaraes boss prefers to stay in his native country. They also report that Castro was in discussions with Reading this afternoon (Monday), but give few details apart from that.

How interested we actually were in Castro is up for speculation. Reading had gone in for the 57 year-old soon after Paul Clement’s departure, but a Football.London report claimed the move was actually driven by football agent Kia Joorabchian.

There were even rumours that the Royals would splash out roughly €100 million over the next two transfer windows so that Castro could rebuild Reading’s squad. That probably should have tipped us off that this was all too good to be true...

Either way, we need a different manager. Other rumours in the last few days, which could have any amount of reliability to them, have linked Reading with Slavisa Jokanovic, Gareth Ainsworth and others.

Stay tuned to The Tilehurst End for more coverage of Reading’s hunt for a new gaffer.
