Rotherham United 1-1 Reading: Player Ratings

Which players performed best in the 1-1 draw in South Yorkshire?

Anssi Jaakkola: 6

Made a couple of decent saves. Did well to hold a couple of stingers. From my angle it didn’t look like he could do much about the equaliser.

Andy Yiadom: 6

Unspectacular. Did get forward OK and defended the right-hand side well.

Tyler Blackett: 6

Considering he was out of position it was a very good performance. Made a couple of crucial blocks.

Tom McIntyre: 6

Solid debut. Won a lot in the air and brought the ball forward out of defence well.

Chris Gunter: 4

Obviously at fault for conceding the corner that led to the goal. Was turned by the Rotherham winger too many times and really struggled all round defensively. His work going forward saves him from a lower mark.

Leandro Bacuna: 5

Solid work at bringing the ball forward. His set piece work was lower than his usual standards, although he did take a short corner too many times that may have been a demand from the bench?

Andy Rinomhota: 6

Broke up the Rotherham play well on many occasions and always looked to take the ball forward. Did go missing for large parts of the game however.

John Swift: 7

His best game for a while and looked very lively. He linked up well with the wingers and Sam Baldock up front, and had the Rotherham defence retreating every time he picked up the ball.

Josh Sims: 6

Had the Rotherham full back on toast but didn’t track back enough or get involved enough for a higher mark. Booked for diving early in the game (would have to watch again to pass judgement).

Garath McCleary: 5

Good first half but very quiet in the second. Wasted a big one-on-one opportunity through a really poor touch.

Sam Baldock: 6

He took the goal really well but had a couple of other decent opportunities to put the game beyond Rotherham. One open goal from two yards out was a particularly frustrating miss. Did lead the line well though and exposed the poorly worked Rotherham offside trap.

Subs

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson: 5

Had little impact on the game. Didn’t look particularly sharp after coming on, which is possibly expected after his time on the sidelines.

Danny Loader: N/A

Too little time to make an impact

Average: 5.66/10
