Jose Gomes Impressed By Beautiful, Positive Football In 0-0 QPR Draw

What the manager had to say after Reading picked up a point at Loftus Road.

We may not have got the three points that we were after, but the positivity is definitely back after the Royals picked up a point against QPR with a good performance at Loftus Road. Reading dominated throughout the majority of the game, although Rangers did hit the woodwork twice.

The point still sees us second from bottom, but only two points behind Bolton who are 21st. Jose Gomes was happy with the performance and felt we showed that we can play. He spoke to both the official club website and Football.London after the game.

Gomes on the performance

“For it to be a very very good performance we should win. We did a great first half, completely controlled the game and we deserved to score and go in ahead at half-time.

“The second half was more balanced, we had chances, they had chances - so the flavour that I feel right now is that we lost two points.”

Gomes on the style we played

“This is the football that I want to play and the football the players want to play - but with goals. And we created a lot today, got into a lot of good situations where we could have scored - so I am proud of what my players did today.

“We have only been working with them for one week, allowing them to recover while also sharing our ideas with them. Everything is new and they have given a big effort to play like I want. So they deserve special mention.”

Gomes on getting that first win

“I am enjoying this football... but we must win. We are not here to try. We must win. Today there was a lot of beautiful, positive football, a lot of good offensive actions, everybody enjoyed the match - so I’m happy with that. But not the result.

”The way my players are working, the courage they are showing, the energy I am feeling day by day, I feel the results will come very soon. They players really want it and the feeling is positive for the future. Today we showed we are able to play like we want to play.

”I’m not a magician. I cannot touch it and suddenly everything is new. I can only share my ideas. It has to come from the players.

”The good thing is that the players accept my ideas and they like my ideas. So all the good words from today should be for them, not for me.”

Gomes on creating chances

“We created a lot. Some very good actions weren’t chances but it was very positive football. We played near the QPR box for a long time and if it was close we switched the play and we won second balls.

“I’m happy for the things they tried to do and they really did very well in the first half but I am not happy with the result.”

Gomes on keeping a clean sheet

“It was important to defend well. It’s one good step which gives us hope for the future.”

Gomes on our fans

“I also have to mention our fans. They came in their numbers, supported their team from the first second to the end. And they saw some fantastic football.”

Gomes on Swansea

“It’s about recovering - improve the things we didn’t do well and try to be better in the next match.

“It’s difficult because everything we are sharing is new for the players but they did a big effort to play how I asked.”
