Norwich City 3-2 Reading FC: Player Ratings

Putting it cleanly, this was not a very good performance.

Anssi Jaakkola: 5

Were the goals his fault? Perhaps not directly - the defending was shocking in the build-up to all three - but Jaakkola doesn't command his box with any confidence.

Chris Gunter: 4

Caught out by the pace of Murphy too often, and didn't close down with enough vigour. Tried to get forward, but wasn't effective.

Liam Moore: 4

Slack defending throughout a very bad first half, but was a bit better after the break.

Tiago Ilori: 4

Beaten so, so easily for Hanley to nod in Norwich's second. Otherwise, same as Moore.

Tyler Blackett: 5

Caught out a few times, but he was slightly less awful than the other defenders (although that's rather a low bar to be setting...).

Dave Edwards: 4

A passenger in midfield - he didn't offer anything.

Liam Kelly: 6

Reading's best player on the day - he was creative, hard-working and was directly involved in both goals (one instinctive strike of his own, one delicious assist for Sam Smith).

Pelle Clement: 5

A touch sharper and more hard-working than the others, but didn’t create a huge deal. Not helped by being told to play as a right winger when Aluko was withdrawn.

Sone Aluko: 3

Offered absolutely nothing down the right, continuously lost the ball and was rightly substituted for John Swift in the second half.

Sam Smith: 6

He would normally get a 5 for a hard-working yet unproductive performance, but we whack him up by one for a smart close-range finish which dragged Reading back into the game.

Modou Barrow: 5

A rare off day for the Gambian - he didn't get enough service and was left little room in which to work.

Subs

John Swift: 5

Actually quite decent - still getting up to speed after injury, but looked inventive in the middle and tried to make things happen. Let down by some poor finishing.

Joey van den Berg: 4

Slow and laboured on the ball, lacked authority off it.

Yann Kermorgant: 4

He played in midfield for some reason - and was as ineffective as you'd imagine.

Average: 4.57
