Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Reading FC: Player Ratings

Low scores across the board as Tom slates a poor Reading display at Hillsborough.

Marc Mayo

Vito Mannone: 5

Had nothing to do except pick the ball out the net. Wasn’t troubled at all otherwise.

Tyler Blackett: 3

Insert stereotypical Blackett quote here. A rash red card putting a sour note on a sour performance.

Tiago llori: 5

More assured than Liam Moore and was generally tidy but not exactly spectacular.

Liam Moore: 4

A mix-up with Vito Mannone early on shook him, not his best, but the result was hardly his fault. However, defensively nowhere near the same level as he has been recently.

Chris Gunter: 4

Seemed to forget he was playing. Defending not his best. However, he was unlucky to see Aluko not spread the play to him on numerous occasions when he got himself into decent crossing positions

Joey van den Berg: 4

I think he played, but I can’t be too sure... subbed for Yann with half an hour to go.

Liam Kelly: 4

Despite his energy and effort nothing really went right for him. Guilty of far too many wayward passes to get any higher score.

John Swift: 4

Wandered around aimlessly. His injuries have taken their toll and he just hasn’t adjusted to playing with a completely different set of attacking players from last season where he was so potent. Hopefully he can gel next season.

Modou Barrow: 4

On a couple of occasions he got to the byline and made us look capable of getting a decent chance on goal. Though like a lot of the team he was anonymous and didn’t show much willingness to get things moving or get on the ball

Sone Aluko: 4

Did nothing right. Incapable of picking the right pass, moving the play along quickly or switching it out wide. Played like he was hungover and just did not click with anyone in midfield.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson: 5

He tried his best, probably should have scored after a keeper spill at 0-0 but seemed to think it was a foul and didn’t react quickly enough, allowing the defender to make a block. He wasn’t helped by those behind him. At least he got on the ball though, just a shame he had no clue what to do with it.

Subs

Yann Kermorgant : 5

Couldn’t lift the team like last week and probably should have come on at half time.

Pelle Clement and Omar Richards - N/A

Apparently these two guys came on. I wouldn’t know as I was already on the bus talking to an old guy about the decline of the Sheffield steel industry. Funner than the game though.

Man of the match

Am I allowed to pick no one? No? OK... I’ll go with Jon Dadi then, at least he tried and was more victim to the ineffectiveness of the midfield than his own performance.

Average: 4.25
