The six players below received the highest average ratings from The Tilehurst End match reporters across the 2017/18 season. Only players who made 30+ appearances were considered. In alphabetical order, the candidates are...
Leandro Bacuna
Average TTE rating: 5.6 / 38 games / 2 goals / 2 Man of the Match awards
Did what he needed to whenever called upon, whatever it was. Need a long-range rocket? Done. Need a dramatic late penalty? Done. Need a right-back-cum-defensive midfielder? Done. Need to embody our new found aggressive attitude by hacking Ryan Sessgnon in the 94th minute? Done.

Modou Barrow
Average TTE rating: 5.9 / 45 games / 10 goals / 8 Man of the Match awards
The closest thing that Reading have had to a consistent attacking threat, Modou Barrow has shone this season. Despite only arriving at the club from Swansea City last summer, the Gambian has settled quickly to become one of the first names on the team sheet for both Jaap Stam and Paul Clement. His goal-scoring and blistering pace down the left have been highlights of an otherwise dull campaign.

Jón Daði Böðvarsson
Average TTE rating: 6.0 / 36 games / 10 goals / 9 Man of the Match awards
It took Jon Dadi Bodvarsson a couple of months to settle in Berkshire following a summer move from Wolves, but when he did, he quickly became a fans’ favourite like many an Icelander before him at Reading. The hard-working forward’s tally of 10 goals was not bettered by anyone else in the squad, whilst he was the only player to net a hat-trick in 2017/18, against Stevenage in the cup. Bodvarsson will be the only Royal at the World Cup this summer.

Chris Gunter
Average TTE rating: 5.7 / 52 games / 1 goal / 3 Man of the Match awards
A very typical season for Chris Gunter who oozed consistency throughout the campaign, and was a constant presence under both managers. A reliable performer at right back, although he was often shifted to the opposite flank or upfield to wing-back, even grabbing a goal from range at Burton Albion.

Vito Mannone
Average TTE rating: 6.0 / 41 games / 0 goals / 1 Man of the Match award
It’s the Reading player of the season vote and you all think we’re suddenly too good to give it to the goalkeeper?! No chance. We’re worse than ever, and therefore have to award our thoroughly likable but accident prone man in between the posts. Get with the program.

Liam Moore
Average TTE rating: 5.9 / 49 games / 3 goals / 7 Man of the Match awards
Solid, dependable displays for most of the season before really excelling under Paul Clement in the final eight games. Star performances came in against QPR and Preston as Moore took home a whopping five TTE man of the match awards on the bounce.
