Congratulations to Omar Richards, who you have chosen as your Reading FC Rookie of the Year for 2017/18! The full-back led the ballot right from the word go, and ended up taking home around 56% of the first place votes to comfortably take the crown.
It was a slightly tighter battle for the silver medal between Pelle Clement and Sam Smith, but despite the latter actually gaining more second place votes, it was the Dutchman who finished nearly 100 points ahead of his rival after receiving more first place votes.
Here are the results in full. A first place vote earned five points, three points were on offer for a second place vote and just the one point went to a third place vote.
Rookie of the Year 2017/18 Results
Nominee | First Place Votes | Second Place Votes | Third Place Votes | Total Points |
---|---|---|---|---|
Nominee | First Place Votes | Second Place Votes | Third Place Votes | Total Points |
Omar Richards | 152 | 56 | 64 | 992 |
Pelle Clement | 88 | 74 | 110 | 772 |
Sam Smith | 32 | 143 | 97 | 686 |
It is little surprise that Richards has won this year’s award with such ease, following in the footsteps of fellow academy graduates Jake Cooper, Aaron Tshibola and Liam Kelly. He deputised comfortably for the injured Jordan Obita last season and you would hope that there is still a role for him in the team when the 24-year-old returns. It also makes you question quite what has happened to Tennai Watson, who appeared to be the club’s most promising young full-back, but has now been overtaken by Richards.
