A long running transfer rumour actually happening? Yes, after being linked with Andy Yiadom in the last few transfer windows, Reading have finally agreed a deal to sign the full-back on a free transfer from recently relegated Barnsley.
Yiadom arrives on a four year deal, and will officially become a Royal on July 1st after a two year spell with the Tykes in which he made 66 appearances and was named captain in January. Prior to his time at Oakwell, the 26-year-old played for Hayes & Yeading United, Braintree Town and Barnet. At international level, Yiadom has been capped twice by Ghana.
Upon the completion of the signing, Paul Clement told the official club website:
“I’m very happy that Andy is joining Reading as my first signing. He is someone that I’ve known for a while, and whose progress I was tracking when I was at Swansea.
“Andy comes here with valuable experience of the Championship – he’s a good age at 26, and he has the right desires and ambitions which will help us to move forward with this club.”
Ron Gourlay added:
“We are delighted to have everything in place to complete our first signing of the summer, as we begin to assemble our squad for the upcoming season. Andy is a player who has shown his quality in the Championship and will be a hugely welcome addition to Reading Football Club, and we are delighted that Andy sees Reading as the right fit for him too.”
