Novakovich Signs New Reading FC Contract, Leaves On Loan

After impressing in the Dutch second-tier with Telstar, young forward Andrija Novakovich has agreed to move back to the Netherlands having put pen to paper on a two-year Reading contract.

The 21-year-old is capped by the United States national team and hit 19 goals last campaign, prompting calls for him to return to Berkshire and have a crack at the first-team, however he will instead play on loan at Fortuna Sittard in the Dutch top-flight. Furthermore, his new deal runs to June 2020.

Fortuna were promoted into the Eredivisie last season and boast former Reading youth player Lisandro Semedo among their ranks, and evidently see talent in English academies having taken Norwich youngster Todd Cantwell on loan in January, the midfielder playing ten times.

Those disappointed that Novakovich is not coming back to the Royals immediately should note that he is graduating to a better division than the one he played in last year, with it appearing that Sam Smith and Danny Loader are ahead of him in Paul Clement’s pecking order, notwithstanding either leaving on loan themselves.
