Reading have announced the two teams they’ll be facing in Austria this summer. The Royals have been due to head out to the European country for a pre-season training camp in late July, with a brace of fixtures to take place. The club have confirmed that they will be against Rubin Kazan and Besiktas, and they’re both due to be behind closed doors.
The itinerary for the trip to Austria is now as follows:
July 15 (Sunday)*: Travel to the camp at Bad Erlach (that’s the full name, we’re not having a pop)
July 17 (evening): Reading vs Besiktas
July 18-19: Recover from crushing defeat to Besiktas
July 20 (5pm Austria time): Reading vs Rubin Kazan
July 21 (Saturday): Fly back to the UK
*The same day as England’s World Cup final penalty shoot-out win over France
After that, the Royals prepare for their final pre-season game, a 3pm kick-off against Crystal Palace at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday July 28.
What’s our head-to-head like against these teams?
Unfortunately, Reading have a poor history against both. In our entire 147-year history, the Royals are yet to pick up a single draw or win against either Besiktas or Kazan. In fact, we’ve not scored a goal in any of our numerous meetings.
However, we are undefeated against Besiktas and Kazan when playing in Austria, so Paul Clement will be hoping to draw on that record in those upcoming games.
Other than that, there’s not really anything else to say so we’ll leave you with the actually true story of when Besiktas were charged by UEFA for a cat interrupting their Champions League with Bayern Munich. Link for that = here.
