Tonight’s Carabao Cup draw has seen Reading pitted against Watford in the second round of the competition. The Royals will play host to the Hornets in the week commencing August 27th.
Paul Clement’s side beat Birmingham City 2-0 at the Madejski Stadium in round one on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Yakou Meite and John Swift. As a Premier League side, Watford did not have to play a first round tie, but were knocked out by a Championship side at the second round stage last season - losing 3-2 to Bristol City.
The last meeting between the two sides came in March 2015, when Watford ran out 4-1 winners against a youthful and experienced Reading side that was far more focused on the FA Cup quarter-final replay against Bradford City two days later.
