Vito Mannone: 6
Was sure claiming the ball throughout the afternoon. Didn’t have to make many saves which really challenged him but did the basics well.
Andy Yiadom: 5
Didn’t really have the same impact as Blackett on the opposite side. Was easily turned a couple of times and his runs forward had no end product.
Liam Moore: 6
Showed great leadership at the back and made some strong blocks to keep Aston Villa at bay.
Tiago Ilori: 5
Worked well in the defensive partnership with Moore, but sometimes lacked different ideas when trying to start a move going forward.
Tyler Blackett: 6
Made one mistake which unfortunately cost us the goal, but overall had a good game. Supported the attack well and got back quickly when needed.
Sone Aluko: 5
Had a lot of energy but it didn’t always seem controlled. Was strong against the opposition but similarly there was no end product.
Leandro Bacuna: 5
I felt it was a really similar performance to when we played there last season. It seemed like he had a lot to prove against his old side but almost tried too hard. Took a good free kick which was saved low by the keeper.
David Meyler: 4
You could see he had the footballing brain, but it almost seemed like he was two seconds late being in the right place. Didn’t feel like he added much to the game.
Modou Barrow: 5
Had a good first half. Made some good runs and got himself into some decent space but was never fully utilised.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson: 5
You can never, ever fault his work rate, but I’m not sure how he was one of the tallest men on the pitch and never looked like winning a header.
Sam Baldock: 6
Looked like our biggest attacking threat during the game. Had a couple of decent chances, including hitting the bar. Took a fantastic penalty under immense pressure to earn a valuable point.
Subs
Yakou Meite: 6
Looked strong and versatile when he came on in the second half. Hopefully he can carry on building on his strengths and become an even more threatening player.
Josh Sims: 5
Won the penalty after a good run into the box and put James Chester under pressure. His inexperience showed when trying to defend but I’m sure this will improve with more game time.
Marc McNulty: N/A
Average: 5.3/10
