Reading’s January clear-out is underway, with confirmation that Pelle Clement has joined Dutch side PEC Zwolle.
The 22-year-old made a total of 29 appearances (14 starts) for the Royals after signing from Ajax in the summer of 2017, but had only featured once this season - playing 64 minutes against Birmingham City in the League Cup in August. He has not been included in a matchday squad since that same month.
Clement enjoyed his best run in the team under compatriot Jaap Stam, who gave him six consecutive starts in February and March this year which earned him a first ever call up to the Netherlands’ Under-21 squad. Unfortunately for him, Stam was then sacked and Pelle would feature just three times in the league under namesake Paul Clement.
It’s therefore unsurprising to see the versatile midfielder move on, especially to Zwolle, the club that Stam took charge of last week. They currently sit in the Eredivisie relegation zone, and Clement joins up with his new teammates on a mid-season training camp in Spain.
