Any ill feeling towards Mark Bowen has subsided after the new Reading FC boss won three and drew one of his opening four games in charge.
There was plenty of unhappiness on social media after Jose Gomes was dismissed last month, eventually replaced by the incumbent sporting director in a move that raised many eyebrows.
In reality, fans were losing faith with the Portuguese coach after he kept Reading up last season, delivering him a pretty low TTE Approval Rating of 2.92/5 after he left. That was his second drop in a row and third score out of four below the magic 4/5 marker.
New man Bowen is having no such issues with a 4.45/5 score following wins over Preston, Millwall and Luton. That is our second highest-ever score on our fan polls, below only the 4.59/5 awarded to Jaap Stam after the Dutchman led his side to Wembley.
By comparison, Gomes clocked in a 3.41/5 after his first few weeks and fans handed Paul Clement a 1.9/5 as he started slowly in the dugout.
The question is: will this last? Reading take on three tricky matches once the international break is over and Bowen’s fresh pragmatic approach will be tested to the full at Brentford and Wigan, as well as versus Leeds at home. It feels as though his system has some resilience to it - but the phrase “honeymoon period” exists for a reason...
