Reading’s Chinese owners took a huge risk when sacking fan favourite Jose Gomes last month and yet the latest TTE approval rating shows a higher backing than ever for the Royals’ bosses.

Dai Yongge is said to have been personally behind the decision to remove Gomes and replace him with sporting director Mark Bowen - a controversial move at the time with some pointing the finger at the Welshman as responsible for both calls.

Since we last asked you for your take on the owners in August, after the transfer window shut, it is fairly remarkable to find their popularity has risen - ever so slightly - from 4.13/5 to 4.15/5.

On our sliding one to five scale, only a handful of people ranked the owners at doing a terrible or less than satisfactory job. Fewer than ten per cent of the people marked them down as neither here nor there, leaving the vast majority awarding a 4/5 (44.1 per cent) or 5/5 (40.8 per cent).

Such a high rating stretches well past the 2.5/5 dished out to the former Thai owners after Brian McDermott was sacked in the summer of 2016. Dai Yongge and Dai Xiu Li actually picked up the worst-ever score in our owner approvals back in September 2018, the siblings scoring just 2.45/5 following a lacklustre transfer window that set Paul Clement up for failure.
