Blackpool will travel to Madejski Stadium for the FA Cup Third Round next month following Monday’s draw.
Eighth in League One, Simon Grayson’s side beat Maidstone on the weekend and are unbeaten in five games in the league. However, they have never won at the Mad Stad and last beat Reading in Berkshire in 1979.
Royals fans will fondly remember Adam Le Fondre bagging a hat-trick versus the Tangerines in January 2014 as part of a 5-1 win. Before that, Reading claimed a 3-1 victory en route to the 2012 Championship title while Glenn Murray and Nick Blackman scored in a 3-0 win on their last visit.
As ball No. 33, the tie means Reading have dodged another trip to Old Trafford while also missing out on a derby with Oxford and a non-league clash with Fylde, Eastleigh, Solihull Moors, Boston or Hartlepool.
The tie will take place between Friday, January 3 and Monday, January 6.
Reading will be aiming to progress past the third round for just the second time in four years after early exits last season and in 2016/17 - both away to Manchester United. In between those years, a Jaap Stam side required a replay to beat Stevenage before falling to defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
