For the first time in a long, long while I was actually confident that we’d get the win on Saturday - and the players duly delivered.
After the fantastic character shown on Wednesday night against the league leaders Norwich, it was obvious that the squad was high on confidence as they put in a scintillating performance in the first half.
A quickfire brace from the in-form Yakou Meite had the Mad Stad rocking, before Neal Maupay capitalised from a rare Emi Martinez error to half the deficit and inject a bit of nerves into the crowd.
However, the players stood strong, dug in and saw out a crucial three points in the survival battle, one that opens up a nice four-point gap between ourselves and Rotherham heading into the final four games.
As ever, there were some key points to come from the game that had the fans talking on social media after the game...
Yakou Meite
This man has had his fair share of critics this season, but he is now starting to prove them all wrong. He is a man on red hot form, which couldn’t have come at a better time.
Another two goals on Saturday took his season tally up to 12 as he continues to cement his place in the starting eleven. Not bad for a player that the club were apparently looking to offload in January.
Meite’s first was one that he probably would’ve blasted over the bar earlier in the season, proving that he is maturing and becoming an overall better player.
He is certainly a fans' favourite, and was shown a lot of love on Twitter after the game...
Human battering ram. Awesome performance, again. Well done ⚪ ⚪ URZZZZ

The home support
In recent weeks, the Mad Stad atmosphere has been better than it has been for a very long time and it was no different on Saturday.
The Club 1871 movement is now definitely making an impact and, if it can be packed out like it was against Brentford for every game, will only be a good thing for the future of the club.
The atmosphere at the Madejski has always been a bit up and down, but now fans are enjoying going to games and can’t wait to watch the Royals play, which is something that we haven’t been able to say for a while. For that, we have Mr Jose Gomes to thank.
God knows where we would be if the Gomes hadn’t have come in, but I guarantee we’d be in a worse off position. He has revitalised the club, and got the fans on board again...
Get me in @Club1871 every week! What an atmosphere that was! Massive win today too. 4 to go, come on URZ #readingfc

The passion of the players
These players love this club. What a feeling that is as a fan, to have players playing for the club who care just as much as you do.
Even the loan players are showing passion like they’ve been here for their whole careers. We have one man to thank for this, and I know I keep saying it but Jose Gomes has completely turned the club around.
He’s got the connection between the fans and the players back and stronger than ever, and that’s translating into performances on the pitch. You could see at the end of the game how much that result meant to the players, and the fans loved it...
If you want evidence of how Gomes has changed our club and the mentality of the players have a look at Chris Gunter yesterday. Putting his body on the line to block shots, driving forward and fist pumping Club 1871 to get them going. Different player. #ReadingFC

You wouldn’t think all 5 of our January signings are on loan, they all play for the shirt and show their passion and love for the shirt #ReadingFC pic.twitter.com/noSjeZ8BoG

I’d have all 5 players back in the summer in a heartbeat ! Should we stay up we will sign oliviera perm and I think we will have a very good chance of getting them again in the summer. The passion they show and the quality they’ve integrated along with Jose is class #readingfc

Conclusion
A fantastic performance and win ahead of four more finals to go to secure another year in the Championship.
The future is looking so much brighter now, and it’s a pleasure going to watch our team play football every Saturday. It’s a good feeling, right?
Bristol City next - it will be tough, but at the moment there is no reason why we can’t go there and get a result.
