Reading have confirmed that online casino Casumo will be the club’s new principal sponsor on a two-year deal.

The agreement will see the company’s logo appear on the home and away kits, which are expected to be released in the next couple of weeks. They take over from energy drink company Carabao, whose red water buffalo had donned the front of the strips since 2015.

This of course means that the club’s Twitter teases featuring the iconic cans will be no more. Not that we’ve needed them so far this summer!

Founded in 2012 and based in Malta, Casumo are entering the world of football sponsorship for the first time, but do already have deals in place with Wembley Arena and Swedish eSports team Planet Odd. It’s also due to enter the UK sports betting market in the next couple of months.

CEO Nigel Howe said:

“As a club we celebrate our history, football traditions and our glories gone by - but we also pride ourselves on being innovative and forward-thinking.

”Like Casumo, we strive to provide a fun, friendly and exhilarating environment for our fans and we look forward to working closely with Casumo this season and beyond.”

Casumo’s sponsorship is rumoured to be a record-breaking deal for the club, but will bring in to question the ethics of giving a gambling company such prominence. Reading will become the 15th Championship club to have such an organisation as their shirt sponsor for the 2019/20 campaign.
