For the second season in a row, Reading have lost their opening two league matches of the campaign. This time, the Royals followed up the 3-1 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday with a 2-1 reverse at Hull City, a true game of two halves.
Jarrod Bowen and Jackson Irvine gave the hosts a 2-0 lead at half time - a 45 minutes in which the Royals never really got going. After the break though, Reading hugely improved and halved the deficit through striker Lucas Joao before fellow debutant George Puscas struck the woodwork.
