Reading will face Plymouth away from home in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

The Royals defeated Wycombe Wanderers on penalties tonight - Danny Loader scoring the winning spot-kick after debutant Rafael had saved two efforts from the League One side. The game had finished 1-1 in normal time with George Puscas’s first goal for the club cancelling out Alex Samuel’s opener.

Their reward for progressing is a visit to The Pilgrims, who defeated Leyton Orient 2-0 in the first round. It will be the 64th meeting between the two sides, with Reading winning the most recent encounter 2-1 in this competition in 2016.

The game will be played in a fortnight’s time - the week commencing August 26th.
