Oh my word what a day.
Less than an hour after announcing the signing of goalkeeper Rafael, Reading have also confirmed that midfielder Pelé has joined on a season-long loan deal from AS Monaco.
This will be the 27-year-old’s second spell in England after spending time on loan at Nottingham Forest last season, where he made nine Championship appearances. Other than that, all of Pelé’s previous football has been played in his homeland of Portugal with Belenenses, Olhanense, Paços Ferreira and Feirense in addition to a brief jaunt to Ukraine with Arsenal Kyiv. He has also previously been on the books of AC Milan and Benfica but never played a competitive game for either club, while he has nine international caps for Guinea-Bissau.
Speaking about the signing, Jose Gomes said:
“Pelé is a strong, powerful, talented midfielder who has impressed at a number of different clubs, especially in Portugal, so I am very pleased he has joined us here at Reading.”
We’ll have more reaction to the arrival of Pelé in the coming days.
