Reading finished the first batch of fixtures with a 2-0 home loss to Charlton Athletic. The Addicks had been in great form before their visit to the Madejski Stadium, and continued that by winning comfortably against Jose Gomes’ side.
Despite an encouraging first half, the Royals couldn’t take their chances - most notably through George Puscas who wasted a one-on-one and hit the bar. Charlton stepped it up after the break through, scoring through Jonathan Leko and Lyle Taylor.

The in-form Addicks came to town on Saturday and put Reading to the sword in a disappointing end to a good August for Gomes’ men.
The manager took some positives from the 2-0 loss, but admitted the result was his fault.
The Royals were undone by goals from Jonathan Leko and Lyle Taylor on the day.
