Modou Barrow Reportedly Walks Out Of Training Camp

Denizlispor loanee Mo Barrow has reportedly walked out of their training camp in Turkey, in an ongoing dispute over unpaid wages, according to newspaper Fanitak.

Barrow is a regular player within the Turkish side’s squad and has helped to guide Denizlispor to an impressive midtable position, after being promoted last season. If the club can keep accumulating points, they may have enough points to escape the dreaded drop zone and fully establish themselves as a top tier side. If only we could say the same thing about Reading.

Apparently, they have multiple sporting branches within the club including football, volleyball, table tennis, gymnastics and basketball. Is there any wonder as to why the club allegedly can’t pay Barrow’s wages if they have so many things going on at once?

Then again, I wouldn’t mind playing for the Reading table tennis team. Anyone up for a game? I digress. Let’s get back to the important information.

It’s unclear as to whether the Gambian will return to Turkey, although it has been said that they are attempting to do everything they can to resolve the issue and bring him back to the side, who currently sit 12th in the Super Lig.

His future at the Madejski Stadium is also uncertain. The 27-year-old first joined the Royals in 2017 for a fee of around £1.5m on a four-year deal, although the Championship club are yet to extend his contract beyond the summer of 2021. With less than 18 months left on his current deal, is it time for Reading to sell Barrow on a permanent deal?

It could be argued that he was one of only a couple of players who helped Reading avoid the drop in the 2017/18 season, and is one of our only attacking threats down the wing. Although there have always been questions over his end product, his pace alone has been worth the £1.5m it took to bring him to Berkshire.

Rumours have been flying around about the winger potentially being unsettled at the Madejski Stadium. Our poor league finishes over the past couple of seasons certainly will not have helped that, despite the fact he’s had some glorious moments in a Reading shirt.

His first goal against Aston Villa in that superb performance that saw Pelle Clement and Adrian Popa lead the front line and his away winner against Leeds United are just two examples early on in his Reading career. Perhaps his late strike against Ipswich Town last season, in one of our key games that helped keep the Royals afloat in the Championship, was perhaps his finest moment.
