Vote For Your Reading FC Player Of The Month For June

Cast your eye over the nominees for the post-shutdown period.

Reading got back into Championship action in pretty underwhelming style with a single point taken from three games.

Two points dropped to Stoke at the death upon the restart were followed up by a tight defeat at Derby and a demoralising humbling at the hands of Brentford. Perhaps not too different from the results you would expect anyway, but still a pretty drab affair after over 100 days without a game.

The Player of the Month vote is therefore pretty slim with only one player managing to tread water at the average 6/10 mark. Lucas Joao did manage a 7/10 for his impressive start against Stoke but it would feel quite wrong, if not very typical, to hand the honour to a man who played barely half an hour.

Some house keeping to do first, with a note that March’s truncated fixture list mean that award was handed to John Swift via TTE Tribunal. In no particular order, here are your nominees for June.

Andy Rinomhota

Average rating: 5.66 / Man of the Match awards: 1st (Brentford H), 2nd (Derby A)

After failing to make the line-up for the Stoke draw, Rinomhota has earned 6/10s in the defeats versus Derby and Brentford for at least showing some gusto in the heart of the midfield. Mark Bowen praised the academy product as the only man to put in any kind of performance last time out.

Chris Gunter

Average rating: 5.66 / Man of the Match awards: 1st (Derby A)

With Andy Yiadom out injured, Gunter is making the most of what could be his final weeks in a Reading shirt. Cynics might say he is playing for a new contract elsewhere but this is the sort of no-fuss full-backing that we are used to from the Welshman. BBC Berks’ Tim Dellor made the point that, game for game, this is Gunter’s best season for the club, and he might well be right.

Michael Olise

Average rating: 6 / Man of the Match awards: 2nd (Stoke H), 3rd (Brentford H)

Another academy midfielder making his mark, Olise has been a very steady presence in the team in the first games back. While yet to produce anything spectacular, the 18-year-old is more than holding his own at Championship level so far.
