Congratulations to Tom McIntyre, who you have voted as The Tilehurst End’s Rookie of the Year for 2019/20!

The boyhood Reading fan made 14 appearances last season, living the dream as he became an established member of the first team squad.

McIntyre was first called into action in August following Matt Miazga’s injury, slotting seamlessly into a back three under Jose Gomes. His next opportunities came in cup games in January, including a performance away to Blackpool that won him a TTE man-of-the-match award.

Injury in the fourth round replay against Cardiff halted any immediate progress, but he was brought back into the side after lockdown, starting five of the nine games and helping the Royals keep three consecutive clean sheets against Luton, Huddersfield and Charlton.

McIntyre is in the relatively unique position of being a left-footed centre-back, making him a valuable asset to Reading. With confidence on the ball and a fearless nature in the tackle, the 21-year-old could have a very bright future ahead of him.

Michael Olise was a close runner-up to McIntyre in the vote, with Gabriel Osho in third and Teddy Howe in fourth. The full results are below.
