It feels like we’re saying this quite a lot at the moment, but congratulations to Luke Southwood! The goalkeeper has been voted as Reading’s Player of the Month for October, having also won the accolade in September.
The 23-year-old received 65% of your votes, giving him a comfortable victory ahead of Andy Yiadom (18%) and Scott Dann (17%).
It comes after another string of impressive performances from Southwood, who has firmly established himself as the team’s number one. He kept consecutive clean sheets in the first two games of October against Cardiff and Barnsley and although then conceded seven in three matches, none of the goals were his fault and he still produced a few important saves in those fixtures.
The shot-stopper was in the top two for our man of the match vote in four out of five games last month, winning the poll on three occasions - against Cardiff, Blackpool and Blackburn.
This award tops off a pretty good couple of days for Southwood, who this week earned his first senior international call-up to the Northern Ireland squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Italy.
