Well that was a very fun Tuesday night’s entertainment, wasn't it? We needed to see a reaction after two bad results - particularly Saturday’s awful outing - and we duly got on. I mean, Bristol City made it pretty easy for us, but it was the kind of performance that will breath new life into both the fans and the players.
You never know what you’re going to get when you’re playing a team who are coming off the back of an absolute hammering as City were. But, fortunately for us, we got a team who looked really low on confidence - and that made for perfect opposition when you’re trying to bounce back yourselves.
From the first whistle we were the team in the ascendancy and the only side that ever looked like scoring. Alfa Semedo and Andy Rinomhota gave us a firm base in midfield for Michael Olise, Ovie Ejaria, Lucas Joao and Michael Morrison to work their magic at the top end of the pitch. Yes, that's right, I said Michael Morrison.
It was a solid three points, and a much-needed win that the fans thoroughly enjoyed. Here’s the best bits from Twitter post-match...
He’s just too good for this league. The ease with which he held off Taylor Moore, took Olise’s cross in his stride and finished past Dan Bentley was incredible to watch, and it’s just something we’ve become used to.
As a centre back in the Championship you must know as soon as he’s pinned you, it’s game over. He’s just too strong and too good with his feet.
He got another goal on Tuesday evening as we got back to winning ways, and the fans were impressed...
YESSSSSS KING JOAO!!!! We’ve been great this half ⚪️ #readingfc— Luke (@Luke1871_) February 16, 2021
God damn joao is good. We sat it every time but he keeps getting better #readingfc— Max (@maxforster10) February 16, 2021
20 goals in all competitions for Lucas Joao and its only February what a season he is having #readingfc— Jack (@thesimpsonRFC) February 16, 2021
Tbf i like the frustration from joao coming off— Will Sumner (@willsumner09) February 16, 2021
Shows his hunger for wanting to score more goals! #readingfc
Congrats to Lucas Joao on becoming the 1st #ReadingFC player to score 20 goals in a season since Shane Long in 2010/11! ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️— Scott from the States (@American_Royals) February 16, 2021
Lucas Joao scores goals. Keep him fit and we have a chance of promotion #readingfc— Jacob Potter (@pott95) February 16, 2021
Morrison has built a reputation throughout his career of being a goal-scoring centre back, but he surely hasn’t scored one like that? If he has, he’s playing in the wrong position.
The audacity to take it on the halfway line, ease past one player, pass to Joao, and then continue his run into the box is one thing - but then to dink it over the keeper after a filthy assist from Lucas (we won’t mention the deflection). Wow.
What a moment, and one that encapsulated everything we love about this team. The fans were loving it...
Michael Morrison running through that Bristol City defence like Lionel Messi. Beautiful!#ReadingFC— Sam Rourke (@samrourke_) February 16, 2021
Love that, Morrison turned into Messi. Furthest up the field I’ve seen him in open play! #readingfc— Steven Hansell (@steveyroyal) February 16, 2021
I am not one to overreact but I do think we have to reserve the number 9 shirt for Morrison for next season.#ReadingFC— Reading FC Blue And White Wall (@bluewhitewall) February 16, 2021
Michael Morrison has made my week Incredible #readingfc— Becki White (@MissBeckaEllen) February 16, 2021

All the best Ms in the world on the scoresheet tonight. #readingfc
You could see all the players laughing at the fact Morrison pulled that off. Love it #ReadingFC— PaunoSZN (@PaunoSzn) February 16, 2021
Yes, The Robins weren't the fiercest opposition we’ve played all season, but it was still a seriously impressive performance and one that will surely please Pauno and his staff.
Two fantastic goals, a clean sheet and three points away from home. Like I said earlier, the kind of performance and result that will just breathe that confidence back into the team.
The fans were buzzing with it...
We won’t get an easier win all season than that, coasted & got a free ticket to confidence booster land. Semedo did well next to Rino, does his job quietly. McIntyre incredible, Morro, Yiadom, Richards all very good, Olise class. Team effort on point #readingfc— Nick Houlton (@Houlton11) February 16, 2021
Get in there! BIG Big win! Made it look easy 2nd half. Rinomhota, samedo, morrison tmac very good. Clean sheet, 3 points. Back to winning ways! URZ! #readingfc— Dean Bennett (@DeanBennett1993) February 16, 2021
Those are the sort of games that serious Play-Off teams win, especially on the back of a poor result at the weekend #readingfc— Sam Hudspith (@samhudspith24) February 16, 2021

Great away win, important 3 points. Bench looking stronger with Puscas as a backup to Joao and all 5 fullbacks getting minutes... pic.twitter.com/u7rXvyf1ar
Huge win back to winning ways! On to the next one ⚪️ #readingfc— Joe Pinfold (@JoePinfold) February 16, 2021
Very valuable win in the context of things, with all the teams around us winning too. Not sure I'd go with that formation again to be honest but we'll take the 3 points and move onto another important game Saturday against Boro #readingfc— Tom Maynard (@ttmaynard) February 16, 2021
Huge win after the last few games and pretty much everyone around us winning today. Decent performance as well but they were awful. Massive game Saturday. #readingfc— Louis Stagg (@dinglouis_) February 16, 2021
It’s a game of numbers, performance irrelevant, stopped the rot, teams outside the play-offs all won. Huge huge win #readingfc— Paul Towner (@PaulTowner) February 16, 2021
A really important, vital three points. And one that sets up another huge game against ‘Boro on Saturday - win that and that is one giant foot in the play-offs. Michael Morrison, when’s the statue going up? That bloke, this team. Just wonderful.
