As the 2021-22 season gets into its stride, we at The Tilehurst End are looking to grow our coverage of Reading and have two exciting voluntary positions on offer.

Firstly, we are looking for someone to take on the role of women’s team writer. Kelly Chambers’s side have been a Women’s Super League outfit since 2016 and begin the new campaign against Manchester United on Friday night, live on Sky Sports.

In this role, there would be the opportunity to produce match reports for the website, with the possibility of attending live matches. There may also be the chance to interview members of the squad for both the website and podcast. As ever, we love to give our writers plenty of freedom and will accept pitches for other articles such as match previews, opinion pieces and statistical analysis.

In addition, we are also keen to take someone on as an academy writer. Again, this position would see you writing match reports for the website with the possibility of attending live games. If you want to get a closer look at the next generation of Royals talent and try to spot the next Omar Richards or Michael Olise, this is the role for you. You would be key to updating supporters with the latest goings on with the Under-18s and Under-23s.

Why should I apply?

If you are a budding journalist in college or university looking to fill free periods and learn the trade, contributing to The Tilehurst End should be right up your street. You’ll be working alongside experienced journalists who can help you kickstart a great career, with our team having contributed to The Athletic, Sky Sports, FourFourTwo, The Sun,, Football.London, La Gazzetta dello Sport and more.

Even if you’re not interested in a career in journalism and are just a passionate Royals fan, these roles are also perfect for you. This is a chance to get closer to your club and produce content that other supporters want to read. While previous writing experience would be desirable, it is not essential and we are happy to help you develop your skills and provide feedback on articles.

How do I apply?

Simply email, putting the role you are interested in in the subject line. Please write a couple of paragraphs about yourself and why you’re keen to join the team.

We look forward to hearing from you!
