Reading FC Loan Report - January 22

We can call off the search, Karl Sheppard has been found. Reading finally confirmed that the striker had returned from his loan at Accrington, while the club also announced several other bits of loan info that we'll round up below.

Joseph Mills - Burnley (Championship) Appearances: 9

Again there was no action for loanee Mills, who can't even get a regular gig on the bench right now.

*****

Dominic Samuel - Colchester (League 1) Appearances: 2

Colchester 1-2 Scunthorpe

Colchester have only played once since the last report and Samuel starting their 2-1 home defeat to Scunthorpe just over a week ago. The striker played 45 minutes before being subbed at the break, having one good chance when he stabbed wide from a low cross.

*****

Michael Hector

Aldershot (League 2) Appearances: 9 Goals: 1

Aldershot 2-0 Accrington

York 0-0 Aldershot

Two solid performances and four points for Hector, as he helped Aldershot move further clear of the drop zone. Two clean sheets will further boost the confidence of the youngster who according to shots fans was tidy but still has some work to do on his range of passing and his shooting, probably not that surprising considering he's usually a defender.

****

Jake Taylor - Cheltenham (League 2) Appearances: 9 (+1) Goals: 1

Cheltenham 1-1 York

Just one game for Cheltenham due to the snow and that saw him play 89 minutes in a 1-1 draw with York. He had two or three pops at goal but none found the target.

****

Angus MacDonald - Torquay (League 2) Appearances: 3 (+1)

MacDonald returned to the subs bench after Brian Saah returned from suspension, not seeing any pitch time during either game.

*****

Gozie Ugwu - Plymouth (League 2) Appearances: 0

Young forward Ugwu has gone out on loan again, following up his spell in the South West with Yeovil by joining League Two strugglers Plymouth on a one-month loan deal. Sadly his debut has been delayed due to the weather, with Argyle's next game against Accrington at the weekend.

*****

Brett Williams - Woking (Conference Premier) Appearances: 10 (+9) Goals: 3 Red Cards: 1

Williams was still missing through suspension.

*****

Ben Jefford - Basingstoke (Conference South) Appearances: 3

As mentioned in the last report, Jefford is still facing a couple of weeks on the sidelines with injury.

*****

Jon Henly - Hungerford Town (Southern League - Division One S&W) Appearances 4

No games for Jon Henly over the past couple of weeks, it's unclear whether his short-term loan has just come to an end or if he's just down the pecking order.

A Royal Return

Karl Sheppard - Accrington (League 2) Appearances: 7(+5) Goals: 1

I'm glad Karl Sheppard is back with the club because his loan move to Accrington panned out about as well as a chocolate tea pot. After scoring on his league debut, Sheppard failed to find the net during the next six months, appearing in just 12 games before dropping down the pecking order and not making an appearance since October 13th. Sheppard has already featured for our U21s since his return but he needs league games and more importantly, goals if he wants to make any impact during the final 18-months of his Reading contract.
