Reading FC Loan Report - January 8

Plenty of comings and going with relation to Reading's loanees over the past few days, including the departure of Dominic Samuel and the return of Lawson D'Ath.

Joseph Mills - Burnley (Championship) Appearances: 9

No sign of Mills in the Burnley squad for their FA Cup defeat at Barnsley, with only 1 start under Sean Dyche, things look grim for the left-back.

Dominic Samuel - Colchester (League 1) Appearances: 1

Doncaster 1-0 Colchester

Young striker Samuel went out on loan this week, heading to Colchester on an initial one month loan deal. The youngster made his Reading debut at Sunderland but it was great to see him head straight into the first team for Colchester's 1-0 defeat at Doncaster. Reports from the game said that he showed promise but perhaps lacked the support needed to make a real impact. Here's hoping he can open his account in professional football over the coming weeks.

Michael Hector

Aldershot (League 2) Appearances: 7 Goals: 1

FAC: Aldershot 3-1 Rotherham

Big Hec has extended his loan spell at the Rec until the end of January and marked the news by helping his side into the Fourth Round of the FA Cup for the first time since they reformed in 1992. Hector had a good game 'linking the defence and midfield well' according to the Shots match report, while he could have had his second goal for the club late on, only to see his effort saved.

****

Jake Taylor - Cheltenham (League 2) Appearances: 8 (+1) Goals: 1

FAC: Cheltenham 1-5 Everton

Despite a lengthy run in the team, Taylor found himself relegated to the bench for Cheltenham's FA Cup tie with Everton on Monday. Taylor featured in 20 minutes off the bench, with the game already dead at 4-1 to Everton.

Angus MacDonald - Torquay (League 2) Appearances: 3 (+1)

No game for MacDonald this weekend but there was the news that he'd extended his loan until the end of the season. The deal means that he'll be at Plainmoor until the end of his Reading deal and Torquay boss Martin Ling said he'd love to sign him permanently.

"Reading keep sending him out on loan and that tells me that he hasn't got a future there in the Premiership and might have to step down to come back again,"

He's come here and any time we've asked him to do a job he's done a good job for us.

He's got to perform well over the last four months of the season to earn a new contract.

He's got Reading to answer for first but we'll be second-in-line, saying to him 'there's a future for you if you do the job right between now and the end of April'."

*****

Karl Sheppard - Accrington (League 2) Appearances: 7(+5) Goals: 1

If he's still on loan he must be really, really bored. Hasn't featured since October 13th. There's been no official word from either club on Sheppard's future but we're doing our best to get his status confirmed.

*****

Brett Williams - Woking (Conference Premier) Appearances: 10 (+9) Goals: 3 Red Cards: 1

Williams is still missing through suspension.

*****

Ben Jefford - Basingstoke (Conference South) Appearances: 3

Disappointing news for the defender as he tweeted that he's set to miss the next four weeks with injury.

*****

Jon Henly - Hungerford Town (Southern League - Division One S&W) Appearances 4

Henly didn't feature for Hungerford this week, with the club's website reporting that he was away on international duty. With no game I can only presume he was a late addition to this event where it's nice to see that we've got another couple of young goalkeepers mentioned.

A Royal Return

Gozie Ugwu - Yeovil (League 1) Appearances: 5 (+13) Goals: 3

Ugwu saw his youth loan with Yeovil come to an end after spending six months in the South West. After a promising start that saw him score three goals, a hamstring injury coupled with Yeovil having a full quota of loanees, meant that Gozie's game time slowly dried up. He returned to Reading and was an unused substitute at Crawley before featuring for the reserves in our 3-1 win over QPR.

*****

Lawson D'Ath - Cheltenham (League 2) Appearances: 2 (+1) Goals: 1

D'Ath is another one who saw his time in the South West derailed by injury, as he failed to break back into the Cheltenham team following an ankle injury. A string of knocks have really derailed the promising midfielder in the past 12 months and here's hoping another loan move can get him back on track ASAP.
