Middlesbrough 2-1 Reading FC: Player Ratings

So near but so far for Reading at Middlesbrough but who shone brightly and who left the few hearty travelling fans venting their frustrations?

Here's how Vicci rated the Reading players following the 2-1 defeat at Middlesbrough.

Ali Al-Habsi: 7

My man of the match. Pulled off some great saves and kept us in it, not a lot he could do about the winner.

Chris Gunter: N/A

Didn't get much time on pitch before he was injured and replaced by McCleary

Paul McShane: 6

Solid at the back as usual. Did have a chance to hit the target in second-half but rather than pull the trigger he passed.

Jake Cooper: 6

Didn't do much wrong. Slipped in build up to the first goal so may have been able to prevent it.

Jordan Obita 4

Relatively quiet in first half and subbed at half time.

Oliver Norwood: 5

Nothing spectacular from him tonight. Did have a couple of shots way off target.

Danny Williams: 5

Show some spark especially in second half. Beat their players a couple of times but other times tried to do too much.

Stephen Quinn: 5

Worked hard but lacked the final ball into the area

Lucas Piazon: 5

Was he on the pitch? Might have been the main one getting in the way

Simon Cox 6

Glad to see him score. Could have had one in the first half as well.

Matej Vydra: 5

Just frustrating as he doesn't seem strong enough to hold off defenders. And that miss....

SUBSTITUTES

Garath McCleary: 5

Made some runs forward from right back but fairly quiet.

Andrew Taylor: 6

Definitely made the difference although picked up a silly yellow card

Ola John: 4

Was so disappointed with him. Looked tired and when he did have ball tried to take on too many players.
