Aston Villa have signed Aaron Tshibola on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

The rumour has been running for a while now and today it was confirmed: Aaron Tshibola has left Reading for Aston Villa. As always the transfer fee is undisclosed but some press are reporting that it is around the £5 million mark.

The 21-year-old academy product made 17 appearances for the Royals since his debut as a late substitute in a 4-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in August 2014. Tshibola will be reunited with former Reading manager Steve Clarke, who is now Villa's assistant manager.

Losing Tshibola is a blow for new Reading boss Jaap Stam who had said last month that he had no intention in selling the young midfielder. However, Tshibola had other ideas and Stam revealed yesterday that he made it clear he wanted to leave the Madejski Stadium.

"I said I wanted Tish to stay because he’s a very good player, I think everyone within the club wanted him to stay. An offer came in for him and of course you have to think about what to do - but then you have the player as well. If the player wants to leave and had set his mind on leaving the club then what can you do at that point?"

Tshibola certainly looked promising last season, but it is hard not to think that his reputation was only enhanced by his absence through injury. He actually only started six games last season, of which only two saw a Reading win.

In that context getting £5 million for such an unproven player seems a good deal, as long it contains a sell on clause in case he continues to develop.

It is a shame that Tshibola has not only left the club so soon, but felt the need to force through a transfer. On the other hand quality players are always likely to move on at some point, and a year of having a quality homegrown player is better than having a lesser quality player brought in from outside.

Good luck Tish, but let's hope his departure gives a chance for other promising academy graduates to make a name.

The club are going to struggle to hold onto him this summer.

News emerged this morning that Reading have rejected two bids from an unnamed club for Aaron Tshibola.

This comes just a day after rumours emerged that The Royals had agreed to sell promising youngster Aaron Tshibola to Championship rivals Norwich City.

TEAMtalk report:

Reading have rejected two bids from an undisclosed club for Norwich, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Celtic target Aaron Tshibola, sources have told TEAMtalk.

A number of British clubs are all chasing Tshibola this summer as they look to bolster their midfield options.

One of Tshibola’s suitors are keen to beat off rivals to the player’s signature and have tabled two £1million plus offers for the 21-year-old which have been rejected by Reading.

It's important to note that this report does not contradict rumours that Reading have accepted a £2million fee for Tshibola, just that there are others bids coming in.

Looks like we have a bidding war on the cards, folks.

It appears that another academy graduate is about to be lured towards the exit door, with Aaron Tshibola the subject of a £2 million bid.

With the new season ready to be embraced by Reading fans, and the slightest hints of optimism creeping in across the Madejski Stadium, the club are set to piss away arguably our most talented young player for a paltry fee.

It's just like the good old days.

Except, this deal, an accepted bid worth £2 million from fellow Championship side Norwich City (presumably plus some add-ons) that's reported by The Mirror, would represent a marked decline from the 'Reading Way'.

For all the talk of moving on to a fresh identity, and breaking free from the perilous restrictions that saw the club sell Matt Mills for £4m+ and take a whopping £3m from Derby for a striker that hasn't scored since, this is simply a terrible deal.

Firstly, it is true Tshibola hasn't set the world alight for long periods of time, and is injury prone. But, when he has played he's shown the essence of a dependable and confident box-to-box midfielder, straight out of the academy, and with great potential. £2m just does not do this justice.

Furthermore, why do we need to sell? Are we that short of cash? Quite frankly any other reasoning, bar the exceptional or something we don't know, seems far less likely.
