How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

Nervous! To be honest it wasn't too bad a season for our boys, we had a good start, possibly too good, and then dropped off before saving ourselves at the end. I think the fact that we stayed up is the key for me, it's never easy to go up into the division above.

How has the summer gone so far?

It's not been bad to be honest, we've picked up a couple of players and kept the bulk of the team that did well for us last season so I can't really complain.

Key player for you next season?

Chris Kirkland will probably be crucial for us again, our defence wasn't too great last season and I'm sure he's going to be a tad busy this time around as well. A fit Michail Antonio could be huge for us too.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

I'm looking forward to seeing Liam Palmer pulling on a Wednesday shirt properly. He spent last season on loan with Tranmere and did well. Chris Maguire is a massive talent too.

Where do you think you'll end up?

I'll be happy with a nice, boring mid-table finish this season. We battled relegation last time so to be comfortable this season would be perfect. With a good run we could maybe push for playoffs but I'm not holding my breath.

What do you make of Reading?

I only saw your lads in action in bits last season but you've got a strong squad who I'm sure will be capable of putting up a damn good fight close to the top of the table next season.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

I think you'll be challenging for automatic promotion if I'm honest, playoffs at least.

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

We achieved way above our expectations. In one word the season was a ZOLACOASTER!

How has the summer gone so far?

Very nice. We weren't sure which players we'd had on loan last year were going to turn into permanent signings and if we would get more in. The players were tweeting pictures from training and we assumed a few would sign, but they have and we are very excited to have our core back and some interesting additions.

Key player for you next season?

Player of the Season Almen Adbi will be vital again, but we are very interested in who will replace the goals of Vydra. Two new Italian recruits should do the job!!

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

I'm going to go with a man who must have intelligence going forward, Bernard Mensah. A product of our academy, it night be one season to early, but I hope to see him in action at some point!

Where do you think you'll end up?

Automatic promotion slot. Confidence is high and we have an amazing season to build on.

What do you make of Reading?

Not sure, I'm interested to know where the team is mentally. In my opinion, I know you deserved to go up as Champions two years ago, but I don't think you are a team that has built. I'm not sure if you are going to push for promotion or if this is a sort out year!

Where do you think Reading might finish?

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

A mixed bag really. On the one hand we had the FA Cup victory and in the other we had Premier League relegation, one of the most unbalanced seasons you could have surely. As it stands though for me personally and a lot of other Latics fans I don't think we would change what happened.

It's not every day that your team wins the FA Cup and that fact that little Wigan Athletic managed to do so will live long in the memory of everyone's memory for a long time to come. While my head screams that staying in the Premier League was important the actual exposure the club now has from winning the FA Cup is fantastic.

There is another side to all of this and that is the off field stuff. Looking at the accounts, and what the club is planning to do to improve the whole infrastructure, 2012/13 was massive. Making a profit and finalizing plans for new youth academy and training facilities.

How has the summer gone so far?

Well losing Roberto Martinez wasn't a great start. Follow that up with the exodus of players we saw at early doors. Well I think we were starting to worry. Yet there was a confidence amongst the fans, and still is that we have the core of a strong squad.

Since Owen Coyle has got his feet under the desk the club has strived towards building a squad that can fight on four fronts next season. Eight quality signings have followed and there isn't one of our new signings that hasn't improved on the foundations we have.

So far so good.

Key player for you next season?

Tough one, extremely tough one; there are a lot of players in the squad who could step up for us next season. One such player is Shaun Maloney who over the past two seasons has been our most consistent performers. Next season he will be a player the team will look at yet again get the team ticking.

Can he make that killer pass? Find that gap in the opposition defence? He has been doing it in the Premier League and I have a feeling that he will yet again play in the same fashion for Owen Coyle.

One young player that might burst onto the scene?

Well discounting Callum McManaman, who I think still has a lot more to come, then I would have to say two names Nouah Dicko and Rakish Bingham. Both play in similar positions the wide attacking forward who has pace power and strength. They have both shown at varying levels they can score goals.

Depending on how they gel into the team and given the chance to shine for us next season, then I would say Dicko is more likely to be the man to watch next season for Wigan. Given a chance I reckon he could cause a few defences some problems.

Where do you think you'll end up?

That's a hard one to answer. Depending on how Coyle gets the team working together then I feel confident that we can go all the way and get back into the Premier League. It's a combination of if's and but's as the Championship for me is more competitive than any other league in the world, anyone really could win it.

What do you make of Reading?

I felt you had a good squad last season, and combined with that you have added a great set of players. With your newish manager in I think you will be a very different animal next season and could surprise a few pundits when it is all done in May.

I have to say I like Nigel Adkins style of play and feel he could help to really build a great team at Reading especially with the investment you now have.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

Second place for you, just behind the mighty Latics; I would expect to see you up and around the top six next season and one of the teams fighting it out for promotion with us.

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

Certainly a season of two halves. With Paul Jewell, we underwent one of the most difficult periods that I can remember at Portman Road - difficult in many ways and most certainly difficult to watch. With his overdue demise and the arrival of Mick McCarthy, there was a dramatic turnaround. We had only gained 7 points from 13 games and were bottom of the league when Jewell went. Under McCarthy we finished in 14th place, 6 points from the bottom 3 with a game to spare. We ended with a great deal more hope than we dreamed we'd have during the dark days before Jewell left. If only he'd gone a little earlier.

How has the summer gone so far?

I think most supporters are quite pleased. Marcus Evans hasn't put his hand in his pocket but Mick's been astute in bringing in a number of players for very little outlay:
Gerken, Veseli, Berra, Tabb, Anderson, Skuse, Murphy, McGoldrick have all come in (some have been on loan here) plus a young player from Waterford, Jack Doherty who looks promising. I think the only transfer fee has been around £50K for Paul Anderson.

On the way out, Chopra has just gone to Blackpool. A relief to everyone concerned, I think it's fair to say.

Key player for you next season?

Difficult to say. My personal choice would be McGoldrick. I think he'll score goals, but I think Daryl Murphy may also be more prolific in this side too. Chambers and Smith will be key in defence.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

Well, Doherty is young and an unknown quantity and may well be for the longer term, but certainly David October and Jack Marriott, who have been given one-year professional contracts, are getting glowing reports from people who watch the Academy players regularly.

Where do you think you'll end up?

In all honesty, I haven't felt this optimistic in years, but I'll try and be sensible and say between 10th and 7th place.

What do you make of Reading?

Some impressive names, like Drenthe & Bridge. I've always had a liking for Le Fondre, would have liked him to have come to us at one time, but I'm not sure there are any other Town fans who feel that way.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

I think they'll probably make the play-offs. So hard to predict in this division though.

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

Last year was miserable. Another year of failed promises from the board, the longest takeover in history and the possible relegation were enough for us to handle. The appointment of Neil Warnock didn't work although most of us thought it would and we need to move on and if possible forget about last season.

How has the summer gone so far?

Some high points and then again some lows. The signs from the boss Brian McDermott are good we look organised and more professional with his minor changes. We've spent £1million on a player (embarrassing I know) but it is progress and the small changes at the club are going down well. There's no more Ken Bates which you can imagine has gone down a treat and there's plenty of changes across the board.

What's your early impression of Brian McDermott?

Calm, understanding and sensible. Doesn't get carried away and he understands we as the fans want to know what is going on with our club. He's brought a togetherness style of management where everyone is on board or you're out and the fans are taking to him very well. Of course results is key so we can't get too carried away.

Key player for you next season?

I'm going to cheat here and go with two - Rodolph Austin and Ross McCormack. There's other key players who need a big year under the new boss and the spotlight will be on Sam Byram. BUT Austin needs a big year commanding that midfield and Ross is a key figure with his experience and he will be a big player if he's played in his best position.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

I need to cheat again because we really do have a few. Dom Poleon a striker can do well if played when needed. Pacey and raw power so could cause problems late on. Chris Dawson a tiny midfielder who showed his class in the under-18's last season and then Alex Mowatt another midfielder who looks to have a touch of class.

Where do you think you'll end up?

We don't have that real quality spine for me to challenge. We need wingers and one or two players that would walk into most teams in the division. I think this will be a transitional year with some youngsters coming in and McDermott building a platform for the next few years.

What do you make of Reading?

Great manager, was joint choice for me along with McDermott after Warnock left. Good squad that should do well but then again they said the same about Wolves, Blackburn and Bolton but the latter did eventually find their groove. Good club who needs to find consistency when they reach the PL, Adkins could be the man to deliver it.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

With the squad you have I'll have to with a top six finish at least. Adkins knows it very well and so do the players so to hell with it I'll say a second placed finish.

Leicester fan Dean Goodsell

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

To quote a famous footballing cliché, it was a season of two halves. First half of the season, we were looking like one of the strongest teams in the division. We were playing good football, getting good results against some of the division's top teams and were even challenging Cardiff at the top of the league. However, once January was over, we came plummeting back down to Earth. We went two months with only one win and only just made the playoffs by the skin of our teeth, to say we were lucky is an understatement. Despite our dramatic final leg in the playoffs leaving a rather bitter aftertaste, I'd like to think it gave our players the desire to push on this season and right the wrongs.

How has the summer gone so far?

It's been very quiet which, despite what some naysayers are claiming, could be a good thing. Over the past three seasons, we have undergone major upheaval. Changes in manager, changes in owner and an almost complete turnaround in playing staff. This year however, we have a group of players who know each other, who have an understanding of how each other play. This means we will not have to have the standard 'gelling' period at the start of the season and, hopefully, we can get some positive results early on.

Key player for you next season?

One player who showed real signs of improvement and progression by the end of last season was Matty James. Last season really ended too soon for James, after being in and out of the team constantly during the first half of the season he showed a determination to cement his place in the starting line up. He's still a young lad who will keep on improving and seems to be growing in confidence more and more. The pressure will be on him to continue his end of season form and, if he can, will be a vital part of our team next season.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

Due to the new financial fair play regulations in place, I wouldn't be surprised to see some of our younger players given a chance in the first team next season. One such player is Liam Moore. With a noticeable gap in central defence, left by Michael Keane, we'll be looking for a player to make a statement and try and lay claim to that spot. With Whitbread's poor injury record and St Ledger allegedly being told he can leave the club, Moore may be just the person to partner Morgan. He has already played a few games for the first team and has started showing some potential as a Championship player but, with some regular games under his belt, I believe he can finally realise that potential.

Where do you think you'll end up?

The ultimate goal has to be promotion. We came close last year and I'm hoping we can show signs of progression and finally make that step up. It will be tough next year, there are some very good teams in this division, many of whom I wouldn't be surprised to see challenging at the end of the season, but I'm confident we have the ability to at least make the playoffs.

What do you make of Reading?

Reading have to be considered a serious threat next season. The core of your squad from last season has been left intact and your team has plenty of experience to cope with the Championship again. You also have a very capable manager in Nigel Adkins, who not only has experience of the Championship but also of guiding teams to promotion after relegation. If you are not competing at the top of the league again this year, I will be very surprised (although, giving us 6 points would be nice!)

Where do you think Reading might finish?

As stated above, I fully expect Reading to be in the top two come the end of the season. At the very least, finishing in the top half of the playofffs. Anything less will be very surprising.

@miniboro_dotcom

How has the summer gone so far?

It's been a bit cagey to be honest. Getting people like Scott McDonald off the wage bill was an absolute necessity, especially as he was the last of Strachan's "Scottish Experiment" which has continued to stifle progress even though Wee Gordon left the club in 2010. We've been adjusting to life in the Championship for quite a few seasons now, constantly pruning and resetting expectations, hopefully this is the last summer where are hands are tied by errors made in the past.

Key player for you next season?

In my opinion its Lukas Jutkiewicz, he's the only one we've spent any kind of money on recently (1.3m) so he really needs to step up and deliver this season, for me that equates to 15-20 goals minimum.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

I'm going to say the same name as I did last season... Curtis Main. He'll need Mowbray to put some faith in him and displace either Jutkiewicz or Emnes but I would love to see him get a good run in the team. He's strong, direct and a natural finisher and if he starts scoring regularly I get the feeling he wont stop.

Where do you think you'll end up?

Frantically clawing at the coat tails of the last play-off spot... and to be honest that's probably about right for us at the moment. Mogga might yet pull off some transfer magic and unearth a few gems, in which case who knows, but given our post Christmas capitulation last season (3 wins, 3 draws, 15 defeats) its impossible to call really.

What do you make of Reading?

They're one of the clubs that i'm a bit indifferent too really. The fact I struggle to remember any classic encounters between our two clubs over the years probably adds to that. The whole Nigel Adkins fiasco with Southampton was puzzling and I do think its your gain, but on the playing side there aren't many names that really jump out at me (you'll probably say the same of Boro though to be fair). That said, we do share the honor of watching Trevor Senior play for both our clubs so that's something I suppose ;)

Where do you think Reading might finish?

I think you've got the set up and manager to challenge, depends if the players are up for the fight or still licking their wounds. Speaking from experience bouncing straight back is a tough call, so i'll be interested to see how all the relegated clubs do. Mind you Adkins and Crosby do have a happy knack of getting teams promoted, so I'd say top 6 was a pretty strong bet provided your not carrying any baggage from relegation.

Lions ST holder Mark Dillon

How would you sum up Millwall's 2012/13 season?

Overly dramatic, with very little outcome. We started poorly, brought in Chris Wood on loan from WBA, powered towards the playoffs until January, when we lost him to January, plummeted down the league and flirted with relegation, only to stay up on the last day. Oh, and we had an FA Cup semi final to shake it up a bit more, with a minor scrap getting some attention.

How has the summer gone so far?

The above rollercoaster saw the end of long time manager Kenny Jackett, who has decided to jump from the south London frying pan into the Midlands fire and take up the stable job at Wolves, good luck to him!

Since then we've appointed a former West Ham captain from St Johnstone in Steve Lomas, which divided opinion. Since getting the role however Lomas has silenced many doubters with probably the best summer of transfer activity I can remember. We've brought in quality strikers in Steve Morison on loan from Leeds, and Scott McDonald following his release from Middlesborough where by all accounts he was the best finisher in the squad but simply didn't get on with Tony Mowbray (who originally sold him to Boro while in charge of Celtic for £3.5m), strengthened the midfield with the combative Nicky Bailey, and brought back Richard Chaplow on a free who impressed while on loan last season following his ‘mutual termination' from Southampton.

Lee Martin and Stephen Bywater have also been brought in, to add some quality in depth we've been missing for a while. He's also made the astute move of bringing back the all time leading scorer, and Millwall fans favourite Neil Harris to the coaching staff following his retirement from playing at the end of last season.

The optimism around the club at the moment is so far removed from the pessimism at the end of last season it's astounding to think it's been created by Steve Lomas!

Key player for you next season?

The key member of staff next season will be Lomas himself.

He's clearly an excellent salesman, having got himself the job and persuaded players of a much higher quality than we've signed in recent years to join the project. This will need to be translated into results though, with expectations now being heightened, and it's yet to be determined how tactically astute he'll be, and how he can manage his squad. On the playing side we struggled for goals outside of Chris Wood last season, who ended as our top scorer despite leaving in January! Morison and McDonald forming a partnership quickly will be key.

We're strong at the back, now have the extra level of ability in the middle, so it'll be down to the frontmen to make or break the season.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

Last time I wrote for this blog, before my efforts were rudely cast aside due to Reading' promotion I tipped John Marquis to come through. He was promptly given the number 9 shirt, scored a goal in an FA Cup quarter final last season, and is now going out on loan this season having had the number 9 taken away and effectively put on the scrapheap with 1 year left on his contract. That kind of sums up the lack of progression of youth players under Jackett, who seemed adverse to giving youngsters games, with a preference of bringing in the like of Rob Hulse on loan rather than giving kids a chance. As a result we've kind of lost 2 years of production.

This season it's tough to know where the kids will come from. We have a few promising youngsters, but with the quality Lomas has brought in chances will be limited. Many of them have had no opportunities yet, so will likely find themselves on loan this season. Aiden O'Brien may see some action, and if he does should find some goals with his movement, but it's unlikely.

Where do you think you'll end up?

We're a much better squad than last season, where our league position was harsh considering our points total. Luckily the bookies are still underestimating, and there's plenty of value in us achieving a comfortable midtable position, possibly flirting with the playoffs.

Outside of the relegated sides, and Udinese B we probably have one of the better, more rounded, squads in the division now. 7/2 to finish top half is massive.

What do you make of Reading?

Ah Reading, welcome back! I see no reason you won't be going straight back up though. The firepower of Le Fondre and Pogrebnyak if you keep them both should be enough, and Drenthe should destroy this division in a manner similar to Taarabat 2 seasons ago. If he can get and stay fit. Adkins is an astute manager who knows the division and how to get out of it, and comparing the setup and the way you've gone about the summer to QPR leaves me confused as to how they're favourites to win the league above Reading.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

Automatic promotion, should probably win the league but it's not usually that easy in the Championship!

Semi-retired Forest blogger Winnits returns to lend us a hand (@Winnits)

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

How long have you got? New owners who initially seemed stable and progressive, around Christmas time started to look a bit Venkys but by the end hopefully seem to have returned to some kind of normality. The apparent slow and steady building approach they initially took was blown out the water when a reasonable-if-not-brilliantly performing Sean O'Driscoll was summarily sacked on Boxing Day only to be replaced by the walking disaster that is Alex McLeish. Fortunately this didn't last two long and paved the way for Billy Davies to return from his sabbatical away from management to take control of the club. Billy is undoubtedly popular with a large number of Forest fans but his abrasive nature can make some uneasy - initially a great run of results saw a late surge to the play-offs, and a customary weak finish saw us drop out on the final day to Leicester. Given what happened to them in the play-offs, if anything it was a relief!

How has the summer gone so far?

Cautiously optimistic. There isn't a lot in the way of transfer fees being spent so far in the Championship, we have recruited well for positions we need to fill - although we still have more key vacancies to fill in my view. There's a lot of talk of ambitious targets, but they seem to rarely follow through with real news - I'm not too bothered about big spending or statements of intent, but we do need to sign a centre half, a prolific striker and ideally another winger. And maybe a left back. And possibly a stopper in midfield. Not that I'm greedy.

Key player for you next season?

I'm hoping it will be an as yet unsigned striker - although Henri Lansbury, ridiculous haircut and all, should hopefully be a highlight in our midfield after a slightly injury hampered year last year.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

Hoping that Jamie Paterson from Walsall will fulfil his promise - pacey, tricky and useful with both feet and with an eye for goal - the kind of outlet we've lacked since we lost Garath McCleary.

Where do you think you'll end up?

Given there are so many clubs with business yet to do it's as difficult to predict as ever I think. Unless we do pull some unexpectedly good signings out the bag I'm not sure we'll have enough to push at the very top end of the table, I think it's more likely that we'll be in our customary sniffing-around-the-play-offs position.

What do you make of Reading?

Without having kept a massively close eye it would appear that Reading didn't strengthen enough to stay up, but have retained the core of what was already a very strong Championship team which if anything is stronger this time around.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

With the usual caveats of signings yet to be made, and not really knowing that much about many teams other than my own if I'm honest, I'd be surprised to not see Reading competing towards the top of the table. A quality squad, parachute payments to steal a march on others in regard to FFP and a proven manager like Nigel Adkins - the Royals have got to be contenders. And I suppose with the season virtually kicking off with the birth of a new Royal, maybe it's going to be your year!

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

I suppose finishing 4th was good, but losing to our arch-rivals at home in the second leg of the play-offs more than took a shine off the whole thing. That's about as bad as it gets for an Albion fan, so it's still not nice looking back. We also had some in-house problems over the summer, so the whole end of the season eclipsed our highest finish in about 30 years.

How has the summer gone so far?

Well, it's all chilled out now and our pre-season results in Spain were really positive in beating a La Liga side and Segunda side. After we finally said adios to Gus everybody has been able to just calm down and look forward to the season starting, and the new guy Oscar is saying the right things (when he does talk). Just need to sign a few players now, including a quality left back. Cheers for that by the way.

Key player for you next season?

Liam Bridcutt, who is from Reading actually, is our best player and biggest asset He sits at the back of the midfield and dictates the middle of the park. Watch out for him when you play us, and maybe against England because he plays for Scotland now too.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

This is quite tough because we haven't really been bringing through many youngsters recently, though a £30m training complex which we're building will help with that long-term. Jake Forster-Caskey, an attacking midfielder and England u-20 regular, is our big hope and he may get some more time this season after spending half of last season on loan at Oxford United. Whether he'll play regularly though, it depends on what impression he makes on Oscar in pre-season. The fans would really like a youth product to come through, so fingers crossed.

Where do you think you'll end up?

Expectations are not as high as the previous 2 seasons, which is quite nice actually. I'm thinking 8th, but none of us really know what to expect from the new head coach. Last season the Championship was pretty random in terms of form and league placings, I'm not sure it'll be like that again this year, and I'm not sure that will benefit us.

What do you make of Reading?

Usual Reading, keep themselves to themselves. Bridge is a great signing.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

I think you'll finish top, and a lot of Albion fans think that. FFP makes that so. You're in the Premiership bubble now and you have a decent infrastructure unlike Wolves, for example, or Blackburn, bloody hell. Teams with a good set-up and money often do well, it's when there's money and lunatics in charge that things go wrong in the Championship.

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

See-saw. The first half was all about the goals, while the second was drowning in yawns. Sean Dyche came in and shored up a far-too-leaky defense but we became ultra-boring to watch. The most excitement we had was the threat of a relegation battle but even that didn't materialise.

How has the summer gone so far?

Slooooowwwwww. We got rid of some deadwood - stars of the promotion season who had done nothing since - in McCann, Paterson and Jensen. But we lost our best player, Lee Grant to Derby. Since then we've signed about six-hundred goalkeepers and that's about it.

Key player for you next season?

Danny Ings. He's a young striker who hasn't yet had a chance to shine due to injuries. This season will be his big breakthrough. Charlie Austin might still be with us (for now) after his Hull move broke down, but Ings will be the star this season,

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

Does Ings count? He's 20 but does have quite a bit of experience. If we're talking young young we have loads of really talented kids who should get a chance due to our small squad size. Cameron Howieson (http://nonaynever.net/16047/howieson-could-make-world-cup-in-brazil/) played in the Olympics and will probably head to the World Cup, so he's one to look out for.

Where do you think you'll end up?

12th. Too low to have any hope of promotion, but high enough to rarely feel the threat of relegation.

What do you make of Reading?

I think Burnley fans will have everlasting fond memories of Reading following our play-off triumph back in the day. You're a good club going about things in the right way. I sort-of see you as a rich man's Burnley.

@algordon_cafc

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

The level headed amongst us were always going to be happy if we survived. A small minority had dizzy hopes of promotion, especially when you consider what the likes of Norwich and Southampton had achieved, but with relatively little cash floating around we knew we were in for a hard slog. The strong squadron like bond that Chris Powell has gelled our lads together with certainly paid dividends as they battled doggedly with passion and a belief in each other which ultimately gave us a highly respectable top ten finish.

How has the summer gone so far?

The pre-season friendlies have seen the squad reunite where they left off in May. With Richard Wood the only new face (our other signing Mark Gower was a loanee at the end of the last campaign) there was very little introduction needed. Goals have flowed in the friendlies for us while keeping a very tight ship at the other end. The lack of new faces wouldn't necessarily be an issue, as I said we've very little resources and I'm not one for buying for the sake of it, but three strikers have left the club this summer leaving Yann Kermorgant as our only established front man. Six days from the big kick off, the squad numbers have been released yet, as I write, our number nine and ten shirts remain vacant. On the plus side we haven't had to sell any of our assets over the break, despite continued interest in the likes of Chris Solly from Premier League clubs.

Key player for you next season?

Our big French striker, Yann Kermorgant. If we are to move onwards from last season he will need to stay injury free and goal hungry. Looking at our striking options I worry Powell will opt for a 4-5-1 formation more often than not, unfortunately as much as Yann is adored by the Charlton support ("we all dream of a team of Kermorgant's" as the song goes) I don't think he's ever going to be a twenty goal a season player. The big lad will win balls all day long but somebody needs to be there to pick them up, I've already seen his frustration at doing it all himself in pre-season. We'll certainly need skipper Johnnie Jackson to once again hit double figures from midfield.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

Callum Harriott started to establish himself at the end of the last campaign and has been rewarded with the number eleven shirt this time. A fast tricky wide man he will run at full backs all day long twisting them this way and that with resounding success. This will be a big season for the youngster. Michael Smith, Jordan Cook, Joe Pigott and Ade Azeez are all young forwards that may well get a chance of first team football this season, any one of them could seize the moment and make a name for themselves. They may have to.

Where do you think you'll end up?

I think a mid-table finish once again looks on the cards. With a season's experience at this level under our belts, costly mistakes should be less evident although our home form needs to be carried over from where we left off before the break. We can't afford to once again make The Valley an easy away day on the calendar as it was for six months of the last campaign. Tightening up in all areas on the pitch should help counteract the deficits we have up front and the lack of funds available for strengthening. If the division is anywhere near as tight as it was last season though we could very easily make the play-offs, or even get relegated!

What do you make of Reading?

Reading have always been a good footballing side but remind me a little of West Brom from a few years back. Too classy for the second tier but maybe not quiet astute enough for the top flight. Your football is always pleasing on the eye and whilst it looks like a large number have left over the summer, Royston Drenthe has surely got to be a great signing for you. I've a lot of time for Nigel Adkins, he did so well at Southampton and was very unfortunate with how his time there ended, and he certainly knows how to get a side promoted!

Where do you think Reading might finish?

I think you'll go up as champions. I'm expecting Bolton and Forest you run you close, and as an outside bet Ipswich might surprise a few, but I think your class will prevail. QPR are going to have too many highly paid Premier League also ran's that won't fancy a trip to Yeovil or Doncaster, whilst Wigan's long season of Thursday night football will put pay to any serious promotion challenge. Besides which, I've a soft spot for The Royals. Elm Park was a great day out and I've a lot of wonderful memories of such a charismatic football ground. Then there was the greatest footballer I never saw. What's not to like?

Derby

Eurosport journalist, Derby fan & Tilehurst End writer, Pete Odgers

How would you sum up Derby's 2012/13 season?

Overall I would say it was a positive one. And that is the first time I have said that since we last got promoted. The emergence of several young players into the team like Will Hughes and Jeff Hendrick, mixed in with a couple of decent summer signings like Richard Keogh and Paul Coutts allowed us to start playing football the right way. Whilst we still looked very fragile away from home, we were beginning to out pass teams, and out play teams at home. 10th place is a decent platform for a playoff push this season, even though we had less points than the year before. The way we played football has given fans a lot of confidence and belief we are finally moving in the right direction.

How has the summer gone so far?

I had written this first time around a few days ago saying it was a very good summer of excellent activity, exept for the lack of a centre back, I then mentioned how all that good work could change if we sold one of our best players, right back John Brayford. And low and behold, as if I tempted fate, Brayford was sold the next day to Cardiff. But Derby have since said they will replace the ginger haired wizard with a centre back, and a right back. These two players are expected to come from the Premier League. Derby in my opinion are lacking a great centre back partner for Keogh, and now only have one young right back on the books, so if these two supposed up-coming signings are decent it could actually be a deal that has benefited Derby.

Aside from the Brayford saga, there's been a buzz of optimism (a rare thing for Derby fans) about Clough's other business. We have lacked an out and out goal scorer for many seasons, but if pre-season form is anything to go by, Jonny Russel - signed from Dundee United - could be the answer, he certainly looks an exciting prospect. Elsewhere we have signed permanently two players who did well on loan for us late last season, Craig Forsyth from Watford, who seem to sort out our long term weakness at left-back. And Chris Martin-signed from Norwich City, a forward who links the midfield with our strikers. We have also signed experienced Championship goalkeeper, and former Ram, Lee Grant who will tie down the number 1 jersey.

So if a right back and centre back aren't found I would say it has been an average summer as we have strengthened attack significantly, but will be weaker at the back. But if these two promised players do arrive, depending on their quality, it could be a very good summer for the Rams. One things for sure there is more excitement about this upcoming Championship campaign than any other for some time.

Key player for you next season?

Key player will be Will Hughes. As a 17 year old he was our best player for half the season last year, controlling the play in the midfield. The only worry was that he seemed to burn out a little.

He does look a little frail, so if he strengthens up a bit he could and should be even better this year, especially with last year's experience to draw upon. I think many are hoping he will lead us to promotion this year as he is that good, although I wouldn't be surprised to see one of the big four swoop in for him in January.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

We already have such a young team, but Hendrick and Hughes are now established players, so with centre back being a weak spot, it would only take one injury at the moment to mean Valentin Gjokaj, an Albanian U21 international would have to step into the lime light. So far when he's played friendlies he's looked pretty decent. Mason Bennett, who made his debut for Derby a couple of season's ago at just 15 years old, and has represented England youth at pretty much every level could also burst onto the scene more this year, although with Derby now having a number of strikers on the books he will probably be sent out on loan. He is certainly an exciting prospect though.

Where do you think you'll end up?

Tough question, fans will be disappointed if we aren't at least challenging for the play-offs, I'm a little worried about one of our centre back positions so a lot may depend on who is brought in before the transfer window shuts. With such a young team it is hard to know, as they could lose confidence quickly with a poor start. But I think after last year's semi-success behind them they are primed for a push at the play-offs. As you well know the Championship is like a lottery, especially with it being so tight last year. I will say 7th, but hope for 6th.

What do you make of Reading?

It is amazing what is going on at Reading at the moment. You have signed some players with real quality, that are a real coup for a Championship side. You also have a manager who has been there and done it before, so in that regard you seem primed for a return to the top flight. I have two concerns though. 1. Is that it is often tough to tell how players like Royston Drenthe and Daniel Williams will react to the pace and ferocity of the Championship, as foreigners do tend to be a bit more of a gamble in the Championship. 2. You arrive in the league low on confidence after a difficult Premier League campaign, and the hangover can often last longer than people expect.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

The overall quality of the team, squad and manager will tell in the end, anywhere in the top 6 places for me.

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

Last season was extraordinary. None of us could have predicted what was about to happen when the season started in August and it couldn't have been any more exciting. As the best team away from home in the country last year, and promotion a Champions, the 2012/13 season was a fantastic experience.

How has the summer gone so far?

The summer has been positive so far. We are yet to lose a friendly and the football Paul Dickov has the team playing is attractive. The fact that we are slow at making signings is worrying a lot of fans but we are in a better position compared to this time last year, and look where we finished in April.

Key player for you next season?

If David Cotterill can continue with his impressive form from last season, he could prove influential in our success in the Championship. As the player with the most assists in League One his role was crucial in ensuring promotion and the trophy.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

James Husband made his debut towards the end of our final Championship season and became a regular in the first team last season. As a left back, he offers a Gareth Bale type role with his ability to get forward and chips in with a few goals and assists. If he is given a chance in the Championship under the management, he could really turn a few heads and surprise many of his opponents.

Where do you think you'll end up?

The bookies have tipped us as a favourite to go straight back down but I honestly think we could be comfortable at the end of the season. With reports of a possible investment we could even surprise a few and people and finish mid table or even higher. Anything is possible in football and we have caused upsets in the past.

What do you make of Reading?

Reading are similar to Doncaster Rovers, both are good clubs with a good history. Reading have defied the odds to get into the top flights of English football and have caused shocks along the way. They seem like a proper football club with honest and true supporters who deserve every success.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

Reading have got to be expected to do well in the Championship next season. As a team full of Premier League class and experience they should be competing at the top of the table. Nigel Adkins proved that he is capable of achieving promotion from the Championship with Southampton and this is his chance to show his capabilities yet again.

Nail biter in the end. After a positive start we lost our way which led to another change of manager. Needed the last match of the season to remain in the Championship (we at one point were down with record points!). But after the play off promotion the season previous, many will have regarded last season a success.

How has the summer gone so far?

I will answer this in May 2014!! Seriously though we have brought in a number of players including a number of strikers. Need them to gel quickly. Expect Mark Robins to achieve that.

I think next season will be yet another of consolidation but expect it to be less of a rollercoaster than last season. We need to be more consistent. Keep more clean sheets. Have more confidence with the ball. Under Mark Robins I expect an improvement.

What do you make of Reading?

How would you sum up Barnsley's 2012/13 season?

Last season would probably rank as the most exciting adventure since promotion to the Premier League.

Now I can hear you sniggering, but to go from relegation certainties at New Year, rudderless after the departure of Keith Hill and rejection from O'Driscoll and Butcher as replacements. We found a temporary fix in the shape of Hill's No2, the unproven "Flicker". What followed was the stuff of dreams. 90 minutes off another Wembley appearance, falling in the FA Cup Quarter Final to Manchester City at the Etihad, Championship survival and form that would have seen us challenging for a play-off position. Add to that the sense that we may have unearthed an English football coaching saviour. It wasn't poor at all.

How has the summer gone so far?

I've only been to see one of the pre-season games at Oakwell so far, which saw us pitted against Club Brugge (fielding Eidur Gudjohnsen). The outcome was a very respectable 1-1 and maybe we just edged the last 20 minutes. I missed the recent draw (2-2) with Wolves, who by all accounts looked every inch a Championship team in the wrong league. So all in all, we look good.

Key player for you next season?

Chris O'Grady who has now signed on a permanent deal, following last season's loan agreement from Sheffield Wednesday. A tall, powerful forward, who loves to be involved in anything. He helps our attacking midfielders function and knows exactly where the onion bag is.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

Paul Digby. He will be a star of the future at the highest level. An outstanding midfield combatant, who at just 18 years of age has you drooling at the prospect of what he will become.

Where do you think you'll end up?

Top half of the table. Seriously!

What do you make of Reading?

In a way, I feel sorry for the fans, who were carried into the Premiership on a wave of optimism and togetherness. McDermott had seemed to reinstall the familiar values and team spirit that had been enjoyed in the days of Coppell. You gambled. You lost. I feel you would have had a better chance this time with him at the helm.

Sorry, but I don't think you'll bother an automatic spot for a guaranteed return, it will require a bit more rebuilding at Reading.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

Somewhere within the top eight. I have a feeling that some of your players may not have the stomach for a Tuesday evening fixture at the likes of Oakwell in October.

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

One that started off hopeful, that looked absolutely nightmarish in parts before finishing as midtable mediocrity. Could have been much better, could have been worse.

How has the summer gone so far?

The good news is we haven't gone bust. The bad news is we've sold pretty much the only players worth anything, we've had to bring in a load of freebies and the situation doesn't look like changing any time soon.

Key player for you next season?

Our best player is Chris Burke but I think the key will be Paul Robinson. If he's still fit we'll be ok, if his legs are gone we could be done for.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

Everyone is going to say Koby Arthur (who made his debut last season) but I have a sneaky feeling we might see a bit of Demarai Gray if he can keep improving. We don't have many left wingers at the club.

Where do you think you'll end up?

Bottom half of midtable

What do you make of Reading?

To be honest, I dunno. Not really paid that much attention to the relegated teams as we'll be the other end of the table. Could be tough for you guys to bounce back, you could walk it... I guess it depends on if you keep players like Pogrebnyak et al

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

Farcical, quite frankly. The Ian Holloway era came to a very messy end, borne out of his frustration at a lack of backing. Despite the enormous success he had brought to the club and a promising start to 2012/13, the chairman denied Holloway the funds to strengthen for another tilt at promotion and after three seasons of battling over every penny, he finally had enough. His decision to move to Palace looks to have been justified after their promotion through the play-offs.

Whereas Holloway's patience ran out after three years, his replacement Michael Appleton could only stomach nine weeks of the same treatment before jumping ship to HMS Venky's - the ridiculousness of that decision only brings home how fed up Appleton must have been at Bloomfield Road. Fortunately, Paul Ince's eventual arrival after six manager-less weeks stabilised the club enough to avoid a catastrophic relegation, but it was a thoroughly depressing season with few highlights beyond the opening weeks.

How has the summer gone so far?

For much of the summer it's been a frustrating time for Blackpool fans, as a number of key players departed with their replacements nowhere to be seen. Indeed, two weeks before the start of the season we only had 11 senior professionals at the club. It was an unacceptable situation with the manager clearly angered by the blocks being put in his way. With funds being denied to him, Ince was having to watch a team full of sub-standard triallists in the vain hope of finding a gem.

Ince made no secret of his displeasure about the situation, remarking: "I'm probably the only manager in the Championship sitting watching a team of triallists. That's not the way it should be." Rumours of an offered resignation were rife, and when the chairman decided to take a holiday last week, Ince flew out for urgent talks. One can only imagine he demanded to be backed with the squad situation looking desperate, or his previous supposed threat might have come true. Losing a third manager in under a year would have piled on more embarrassment for the owners, so thankfully they appear to have relented in their frugality.

Players have now started to arrive, with Bobby Grant, Michael Chopra and Steven Davies providing much-needed attacking options. We are still a good 5-6 players short of a competitive squad, but more will surely arrive during August - hopefully of a sufficient quality to not only avoid the relegation worries of last season, but look towards the top half of the table. Additionally, we've also retained Tom Ince so far, and if he is still a Blackpool player when the transfer window closes, then Paul Ince may be relatively satisfied.

Key player for you next season?

If he stays, then Tom Ince is obviously the main threat we possess. He was top scorer by some distance last season, as well as creating his fair share too. A fee as agreed with Cardiff, but with Ince rejecting the move to South Wales it'll be interesting to see if anyone else comes in for him before the end of August.

Despite being left-footed, Ince spent most of last season operating on the right of a front three, which sometimes made him a little predictable as he typically looked to cut inside. If he is to continue playing wide, I'd prefer to see him on the left as default, but perhaps switching every now and then. However, it's possible his father may see use for him 'in the hole', although it's unclear at this point if he has the maturity to play that role.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

Blackpool's youth system has been one of the worst in the Football League, and it must be 10 years since a player last came through and made any significant number of appearances. Of the current crop, midfielder Liam Tomsett possibly has the best chance, although given there are already a decent number of midfielders in the squad, his prospects still look remote.

Then there's Alberto Noguera, who joined last summer from Atlético Madrid. It was a tough first season with him struggling to adapt and only played 20 minutes of league football. However, Blackpool are lacking creative players at the moment, so he may now get his chance. Noguera has a small build, but his on the ball ability is not in doubt. Whether he can demonstrate this in the frantic-paced Championship remains to be seen.

Where do you think you'll end up?

Had you asked me this a week ago, I'd have said a finish in the bottom third of the division would be most likely, but the signings of Chopra and Davies provide more encouragement. Until the squad is fully assembled, it's just so difficult to predict.

The failure to prepare early in pre-season could cost us, but if the two most recent acquisitions are the sign of things to come, then the top half shouldn't be beyond us. If the club can't bring in the required 6-8 players (of a good standard) though, we may be looking over our shoulders.

What do you make of Reading?

I rate Reading's chances of having a good season. I like Nigel Adkins, and the squad doesn't look to be have been weakened. I'd say the important factor for Reading is not losing anyone before the end of the transfer window, because the squad certainly looks good enough for promotion.

Jobi McAnuff is a player I've always rated when Blackpool have come up against him, while Pavel Pogrebnyak and Adam le Fondre scored score plenty of goals. I also thought the signing of Danny Williams was a good move - he's a player I saw a lot of for Freiburg and he should do very well at Championship level. And then there's Jem Karacan who I think is excellent.

Honestly there are a lot of players in the Reading squad I could enthuse about. I think you have a lot to be excited about, despite the disappointment of relegation.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

I think you'll be promoted, but it may depend on how QPR react to relegation on whether it's automatic or through the play-offs. I'd tip Watford for the title, but I think both Reading and QPR won't be far behind.

Bolton

Mark from The Lion of Vienna Suite

@LionOfViennaSte

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

The 2012/13 season had us go through every possible emotion. There was fear ahead of the first match at Burnley, frustration when Bolton was losing every match in sight, anger when nothing was changing, and hope when Dougie Freedman took over. It was a bit of slow going with the new manager but he did his first job (shoring up the very leaky defense) well and soon, Wanderers were keeping clean sheets and going on winning streaks. It was a very tense end to the season with Wanderers fighting with Leicester City and Nottingham Forest for a play-off place and a home draw against Blackpool saw Wanderers miss out by the slimmest of margins.

How has the summer gone so far?

It's been a very busy summer. Bolton have signed eight players thus far in Marc Tierney, Alex Baptiste, Jermaine Beckford, Rob Hall, Hayden White, Conor Wilkinson, Gary Fraser, Erik Bukran. The new signings are a mix of proven talents and youth prospects. Some are slotting into the U-18 team, others will be starting at Burnley on opening day. Freedman has let go of some dead weight, sold others, and brought in some very promising new talent. The pre-season friendlies have not gone well but we're hoping that it's just the players shaking the rust off.

Key player for you next season?

The obvious answer here is Chris Eagles, who was Bolton's leading scorer with 12 last season. That said, there are a few players that we're looking at to have breakout years. Marvin Sordell has not yet proven himself as a striker while Stu Holden, after a successful summer playing in the Gold Cup, is back to fight for a spot in the already packed midfield. Jermaine Beckford is another one that has to justify his signing and we're hoping that he provides at least 15 goals.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

Dougie had begun integrating a number of young players into the first team squad, bringing through the likes of Chris Lester, Zach Clough, Sanmi Odelusi, Josh Vela, and Tom Eaves. I think it's that last name, Eaves, who could really prove himself this year up front in a goal-starved Bolton attack.

Where do you think you'll end up?

Assuming everything goes well and Bolton Wanderers don't have a ridiculous injury crisis as they have done every year for the last few, there is no reason why Bolton can't fight for an automatic promotion spot.

What do you make of Reading?

Reading are a strong side lead by a proven Championship manager. They look like a force to be reckoned with in this division and Bolton Wanderer swil not be taking them lightly. There's some quality in that squad, in just about every area of the field. As an American, I'm actually really looking forward to seeing Danny Williams get a shot in the team.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

I think Reading will be in prime position to win a spot on the elevator straight back up to the Premier League.

Bournemouth

Pete from Cherry Chimes

@PeterBell19

How would you sum up your 2012/13 season?

In a word "phenomenal". I had visions of AFC Bournemouth being relegated after the first 10 games of last season. Whatever Paul Groves and Shaun Brooks were trying to do in getting their message across to the players just wasn't working. All the fans knew it and the chairman had to accept that as well, having seen the club spend probably the most money in its history in rebuilding the squad. Then Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall returned to the club and the speed in which they turned things around was incredible. We went on a 15 league game unbeaten run and, even with a small blip towards the end, we only missed out on being Champions of League One by that extraordinary turn of events at Griffin Park.

How has the summer gone so far?

As usual, AFC Bournemouth have been making headlines. The biggest one was for the pre-season exhibition match against the most unlikely of all opponents Real Madrid! I mean Real Madrid playing at Dean Court. We thought it was an April fool at first and then the realisation hit us that is was really going to happen when the ticket price of £60 was announced. I went to the game and it was a fantastic day with our new Ted MacDougall stand being opened as well as the refurbished and extended club shop. The stadium was absolutely buzzing with some 11, 722 fans packed into it. The fact that we lost 0:6 did not matter at all. The aim was to tell everyone that Bournemouth has a football team that is making progress and is aspiring to greater things. We have also brought in some more experience to the squad , especially in defence with Elliot Ward and Ian Harte, both on free transfers. The only downside was missing out to Eintracht BraunSchweig on the Simeon Jackson signing, a former Norwich City striker. We are also picking up a lot of injuries in pre-season, which is worrying.

Key player for you next season?

Harry Arter is our engine room. We need to keep him on the pitch as often as we can and that means he has to play with a cool head, and not get too many yellow cards which has been his Achilles heel. He is not only a good ball winner, but can provide killer passes and create great goals, as well as score them himself.

One younger player who might burst onto the scene?

Well, we do have a secret weapon. So little is known about him that even AFCB supporters wonder how we came across Mohamed Coulibaly. He is 24 and from Senegal. Last season played for Grasshopper Zurich. Mohamed can play on the wing or upfront and was man of the match against Real Madrid in his home debut. Cherry Chimes likes him so much that we have just sponsored his away shirt for next season.

Where do you think you'll end up?

I know that some teams have come straight through the Championship having been promoted from League One, but we are not at that level yet and the Championship looks as difficult as it has ever been with the massive clubs that have been relegated from the Premier League. If we can keep every one fit and play our first team in more than 70 per cent of games, I can see Bournemouth finishing between 10th and 15th. I would like to be more optimistic but the challenge ahead of us is huge and the Financial Fair Play Rules have prevented us from building the squad further.

What do you make of Reading?

Reading have a good parachute payout from the Premiership. They did not over spend when they were in the top tier and have an excellent chance of going straight back up. You have a proven manager in Nigel Adkins and you have added to your squad over the summer with quality in the shape of Wayne Bridge, Royston Drenthe and Danny Williams. What is more, you look about ready to spend some more, while also keeping hold of most of your former Premiership players.

Where do you think Reading might finish?

Surprisingly, I think you'll come in second rather than first. My dark horse for the title is Bolton Wanderers.
