In Talk Sport's morning transfer roundup they report that with Blackburn's Rudy Gestede set to make the switch to Selhurst Park, Murray could now be allowed to leave the club.
The same report quotes a figure of £2m for Reading to capture Murray.
Steve Clarke has never given up on the deal but as discussed at length on various Tilehurst End Podcast's in recent weeks, it would be very surprising to see Reading shell out such a fee and the contract that goes with it for a man the wrong side of 30 and a club in transition.
That being said, Murray showed his qualities while at the club and with Reading very much still needing a striker, a loan deal till the end of the season with a move to a permanent when the new FFP year kicks in could be a deal that might suit both parties.
All pure speculation at this stage but we'll keep you updated with any developments here at The Tilehurst End.
Do you think Reading should sign Glenn Murray if the opportunity arises? We've set up a poll below for you to vote, and feel free to leave your opinions in the comments section.
In October, 76% of you wanted the frontman retained beyond January, but that number had dropped to 46% by December.
